Partners develop and change during their shared path through life. Some things abide, while others are subject to change. Precisely because not everything remains as it was at the beginning, changes can also be understood as creative possibilities for common growth. This book seeks to show how married couples are challenged to give each other support, and also to help each other in this process of growth. In this Album amicorum, three thematic areas are taken up. These constitute the basis of five decades of shared life, and the wisdom of marital love finds expression in them: theology and spirituality, questions about bioethics, and the Jewish-Christian dialogue. Aldegonde Brenninkmeijer-Werhahn is the founder and director of the International Academy for Marital Spirituality (INTAMS), founded in 1989 in Brussels. Together with her husband, Hubert Brenninkmeijer, she also founded the Centre for the Study of Christianity at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (2000), and the Cardinal Bea Center for Judaic Studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome (2001). Global Togetherness is an idea the time of which has come. It is an idea which has been evolving for many millennia. The idea permeated the Vedic and the Sramana vision of life in India. ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ was the credo of the liberal, large-hearted, enlightened, emancipated, and civilizational mindset of India in its radiant magnanimity. The seers of India envisioned in their concept of global togetherness the oneness of the human family, the foundation of which was the sharing and caring philosophy of reciprocity, interdependence and affirmative tolerance based on an understanding and acceptance of diversities.

Building bridges between Asian and Western philosophies, Kuang-ming Wu provides a novel approach to the "self-other" issue, casting it in terms of togetherness. On the "Logic" of Togetherness is a natural sequel to On Chinese Body Thinking (Brill, 1997). It is an essay on a cultural hermeneutics of togetherness, and of the homo-ecological community of differences, cultural and otherwise. "Togetherness" is the concrete primal "that" by which we explain and analyze concrete things and situations: an intrinsic interactive principle of integrity, growth, reflection, and behavior. In five sections, this book describes cultural, personal, argumentative, religious and philosophical situations of togetherness, thus providing an imaginative examination of its varieties.

In today's technological and globalised world, music remains a basic dimension of society. Music, Encounter, Togetherness outlines a relational approach to music that creates space for both human agency and social relationship. Throughout the book, author Nicholas Cook puts Euro-American musical traditions into dialogue with other world music cultures, complementing theory-driven approaches with comprehensive case studies ranging from late eighteenth-century India to contemporary China, and from Debussy's encounter with Javanese music and dance to cross-cultural musicking in Australia and in cyberspace. Through these examples, Cook examines how music affords interpersonal relationship and social togetherness, and what happens when musicians from different cultures interact. Central to the book is the idea of encounter, which highlights the dynamic and processual nature of musicking, as much in therapy or at home as in the jazz club or concert hall. Western musicologists have traditionally thought of music as primarily a repertory of objects; Cook illustrates how thinking of it in processual terms--through an expanded idea of performance--can make as much sense of Western art music as of other traditions. In basing an understanding of music on acts rather than objects and focussing on people and their relationships rather than on the impersonal forces of evolutionary or stylistic histories, the book opens up ways of thinking that counter some of the dehumanising aspects of musical thinking and practice in global modernity.

A breathtaking detective story, this book charts the adventure of Whitehead's ideas in a remarkably detailed and careful reconstruction of his metaphysical views. Incorporating heretofore unpublished material from students' notes and correspondence, Professor Ford analyzes the order of composition of various portions of Whitehead's books, principally Science and the Modern World, Religion in the Making, and Process and Reality. Ford's reconstructive method is perfectly tailored to his subject, for Whitehead revised by inserting new material rather than altering or deleting the old. Thus Ford is able to date the sequence of the composition of many passages. In distinguishing these layers of articulation, he has pushed the techniques of "higher criticism" beyond anything the French structuralists and deconstructionists have dreamed of and chronicled an extraordinary intellectual biography.
