"Texas" John Slaughter was a legendary figure of the Old West, indelibly etched into its history as one of the era's greatest heros-a lawman and cattle rancher with bravery to burn and the smarts to come out on top, even when the odds were stacked against him. As lethal as he was with a gun, Texas John never asked for any trouble-but somehow, trouble always had a way of finding him... Grazing cattle is where the money is, and Slaughter is determined to carve out his own piece of paradise on a San Bernardino ranch. But along the way, Slaughter will have to fight for what's rightfully his, from his run-ins with clans of greedy rustlers to his time as Tombstone's tin star and his deadly showdown with the notorious Apache Kid. And in the end, when the dust has settled, they will all learn the same deadly lesson: no one walks away from a shootout with Texas John Slaughter.

The Civil War is over. The American West is on the mend. But one man’s battle has just begun as he discovers that freedom and justice are never as simple as black and white. JUSTICE GUN Live by it. Die by it. It was a miracle for gunman Matt Price to make it out of Redemption, Texas, alive. Facing down the outlaws who wanted him dead, he left the town in flames, like the hell it was. Gut-shot and dying, he drifted. It was a blessing that he was rescued by the Carvers—a black family pioneering their way to freedom, toward the peaceful town of New Harmony. Price knows that if it sounds too good to be true, it is. An old rule but still holding strong in New Harmony. Recuperating in the small settlement, Price learns that not everyone is interested in being friendly, and that not all outsiders are treated equally. It’s time for Matt Price to wage a new war—as the savior of the people who saved his life.

THE WAR IS OVER The Civil War may have ended, but division still remains among its survivors. Some continue to rally for equality. Then, there are others, like the Knights of the Rising Sun. They’re a group of vicious vigilantes who want to halt progress in Texas and put an end to bluebellies and carpetbaggers by bullet, fire, and noose. THE FIGHT CONTINUES The Secret Service sends Gideon Ryder to stop the Knights before they grow from a gang into an army. But as Ryder follows the band of villains from Corpus Christi to Jefferson, Texas, his mission proves more difficult than planned, especially when the cowards only surface with sacks over their heads. To learn their identities, Ryder will have to get close enough to see under the hoods. Luckily, Gideon has an army of his own ready to take them down, flanked by his Colt in his left hand and his Henry in his right…

This up-to-date second-edition work will stimulate and clarify readers' thinking on the key issues surrounding guns in the United States—especially on the debate over gun control. Most public debate and discussion about guns in U.S. society is rarely guided by research—not surprising, as most individuals have a personal opinion on this highly inflammatory topic based on their upbringing or personal experiences. Additionally, most research about gun use in America is confusing and contradictory, making it difficult for citizens to gain much from their attempts to investigate the topic objectively. This book offers concise, understandable coverage of all aspects of the issue, including incidence of gun violence; gun control; gun rights; government regulation, legislation, and court decisions; gun organizations (for gun control and for gun rights); gun enthusiast subcultures—for example, hunters, target shooters, and collectors; and U.S. attitudes toward guns. Many of the covered topics are placed in historical and cross-cultural perspective. The new edition of Gun Control in the United States: A Reference Handbook enables the reader to navigate and interpret the research to become sufficiently educated on any specific aspect of the gun issue to make an informed decision—for example, whether to support stricter or more lenient gun control; whether to become a gun owner; whether to support a particular political party or candidate; or whether to develop or to refine a particular philosophy regarding guns. Other aspects of the contemporary gun debate that are addressed include whether the Supreme Court's ruling that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right will withstand future challenges, whether the strong gun regulations used in Europe would be effective and applicable in reducing gun violence in the United States, and whether the diversity explosion created by the high rate of immigration from countries where guns are strictly controlled will soon change the politics of the U.S. gun control debate.
