"This book analyses the character of Jonathan in 1 Sam 13-2 Sam 1 and in contemporary fiction. The first part of each chapter is devoted to the literary portrayal of Jonathan in the final form of the biblical text. It seeks to establish an interpretation that allows Jonathan to be read as a psychologically cohesive character. This part raises a series of questions. What kind of man is Jonathan who shows initiative, daring, and clear leadership ability (1 Sam 13-14), yet also is willing to lay down his crown before the usurper David's feet in humble submission (1 Sam 18-23)? What kind of son is Jonathan who rebels against Saul and takes David's part in the conflict between the two men, yet remains loyal to his father until the bitter end on Mount Gilboa? The second part of each chapter investigates the depictions of Jonathan in contemporary fiction, with focus on novels, short stories, and poetry. It explores how a wide range of modern retellings of the David saga highlight, transform, and subvert the biblical portrayal of Jonathan. This part responds to the series of questions raised in the first part. Together, the two parts demonstrate how fictional retellings both deepen and challenge the ways that scholars interpret the biblical text"--

Every student new to the college must take a class in ‘Orientation’ on his first semester at the college. In the ‘Orientation Class’, the new student will be introduced to the college and what the college can provide. He will be provided with information on the majors and courses that will be available to him, the facilities that will be available to him for his studies, and the resources that will be available on campus and off campus. The students are encouraged to choose their major and classes wisely, and use all the facilities and resources productively. The journal ‘Jonathan’s Venture’ is an orientation to introduce the reader to the mechanics of non-organic autonomy, the mechanics of bio-organic autonomy, and the mechanics of social autonomy. This journal will give only a brief perspective on these subjects. Hypotheses and speculations to it will be brought up in different places on the journal to encourage the reader to search further on the subject(s) that bring interest to the mind. The reader is encouraged to prove the speculations and share what he has found.

Jonathan's Loves, David's Laments uses early modern musical interpretations of David's Lament over Saul and Jonathan to deepen the historicist foundations of contemporary feminist and gay relational theologies. After laying out how gay theologian Gary David Comstock connects the story of David and Jonathan to the theology of lesbian theologian Carter Heyward, the argument interrogates both theological and exegetical problems in making those connections, which include contradictory theological stances with regard to modernity and history as well as the indeterminacy of the biblical text. Early modern musical interpretations of the text allow for a double move of engaging the texts through a sensual medium, thus reinforcing queer possibilities for meaning-making from the biblical text, and staying attuned to the fact that the history of interpretation reinforces the indeterminacy of the text, thus keeping queer interpretations aware of the relativizing function of historical difference.

Jonathan’s Tales, Volume 1, is a compilation of 11 magical bedtime stories told verbally to my then 6-year-old son. They are enhanced written transpositions from the audio versions captured on my android phone numbering nearly 100 recorded stories. A list of additional stories is at the end of this book. The Tales, came to life after my son’s bedtime toilette, and he, snuggled in bed, arbitrarily drew from his head a binary subject and allowed me several minutes to ponder a story. These Tales located firmly in the magical realism genre were told with three principal aims. Firstly, entertainment. Secondly, erudition to increase knowledge on specific items of facts, or to whet my son’s appetite to seek out more information (the notations referenced at the end of the book for each Tale act as a starting aid). Finally, didactic, a way of subtly introducing a broader morality into my son’s world on an array of subjects including, but not exclusively, the power of love and friendship, of kindness and honesty and the importance of inclusivity recognising we are all, as individuals, very different.
