This book entails how a child of the mountain becomes the timeless sentinel, gaurding the frontiers all his life and becoming an eternal name of summits etched with Indian Army’s spirit. With all our combined ability and might, we have endeavored to articulate the remarkable life journey of Colonel Chhewang Rinchen, MVC, and Bar, SM, the distinguished veteran of the Indian Army who faced four wars with pride since India's independence. Through meticulous research and heartfelt storytelling, we have portrayed Colonel Rinchen’s selfless deeds through anecdotes not only as fearless warrior but also as compassionate leader who consistently prioritized the well-being of their fellow soldiers and community. His exceptional courage and unwavering piousness towards his duty were exemplified by his dual Mahar Vir Chakra and numerous other honours. Apparently, it also solidifies his place as one of India's most celebrated military heroes. The narrative is a tribute to Colonel Rinchen's enduring legacy—a testament to his indomitable spirit, glorious sacrifices, and persistent commitment to serve the nation. After three and a half years of dedicated effort, we are proud to share the inspirational story with you all, hoping it will serve as a beacon of courage and integrity for generations to come.

Air Commodore Jasjit Singh was one of India's foremost strategic analysts. The only constant for him in over three decades of research, analyses and writing was the centrality of national interest. Indeed, the man never let the nation down, whether as an air warrior or a strategist - ever ready to voice his views irrespective of how the wind was blowing - and always remaining practical in approach. Ever an optimist, he believed that India would inevitably rise to power by the sheer size of its economy and human resource potential. A greater concern for him, however, was the need to sensitize his compatriots to the national security challenges that would arise as the country rose, and to equip them with the capability to optimally address these. He did so through his writings and talks. This book is a modest compilation of his select writings on two specific issues - nuclear strategy and Pakistan - since he considered these as critical amongst India's many security challenges. Of course, the range of Jasjit Singh's writings and the expanse of his knowledge is immense and beyond capture in one book. But, this is a small effort in the direction of spreading his message/ideas to the current and future generation of scholars and policy makers. Hopefully, it will encourage students of national security to look for more of his writings beyond the few that we have been able to carry in this volume.

This book presents recent advances in renewable energy scenarios for future Indian smart cities including technologies and devices at the scales of both experimental and theoretical models for Industry 4.0, the concept of automated and computerized industrial manufacturing and practices. The current Indian economy is inclined towards smart urban cities, but the energy deficit in modern society is not well recognized. As a result, there is an enormous need to explore alternative avenues of energy for future smart cities. Because such cities depend significantly on technologies and devices that comprise Industry 4.0, the synthesis of energy scenarios enables an understanding of the technology, applications and devices that contribute immensely to the textile, construction, cosmetics, biomedical and environmental industries, among others. These industrial areas are the key starting points for a wide range of applications, consequently becoming top priorities for science and technology policy development. Such advances already have been adopted in various contemporary services and products, especially in the fields of electronics, health care, chemicals, cosmetics, composites and energy. This book is a valuable resource for practising energy planners, citizens and professionals such as businesspeople, bureaucrats from all levels of government, employees from nongovernmental public organizations and their volunteers and other individuals who have stakes in the development of their city-region.

Located some 600 miles from the coast of India, Sentinel Island is the home of the last people entirely cut off from the modern world, the Sentinelese. No one knows where they come from, what language they speak, their beliefs. Only one thing is certain: for centuries they have violently rejected outsiders who set foot on their island, including Venetian travellers, British colonists, shipwrecked Chinese, Malaysian poachers, European monarchs, or American missionaries. Sentinel Island tells the story of this people and of Krish and Markus, two friends who have little in common other than their fascination with this forbidden island. One is an anthropologist of Indian origin in a badly fraught marriage to an American woman; the other an unmarried New York editor, heir to an enormous fortune built in the art market. Swept up in a grand adventure, Sentinel Island is the story of peoples in far-flung places, friendship, class relations, contemporary America, the gradual unravelling of an interracial marriage—and the story of globalization and those who attempt to escape it.
