International Monetary Fund Annual Report 2006

The Annual Report 2006 to the Board of Governors reviews the IMF’s activities and policies during the financial year (May 1, 2005, through April 30, 2006). The main sections cover the Fund’s Medium-Term Strategy; country, global, and regional surveillance; strengthening surveillance and crisis prevention; IMF program support and crisis resolution; the Fund’s role in low-income countries; technical assistance and training; financial operations and policies; and governance and management of the IMF. Besides the full financial statements for the year, appendixes cover international reserves, financial operations and transactions, principal policy decisions, press communiqués of advisory committees, Executive Directors and their voting power, and changes in the Executive Board’s membership.

Financial Soundness Indicators (FSIs) are measures that indicate the current financial health and soundness of a country's financial institutions, and their corporate and household counterparts. FSIs include both aggregated individual institution data and indicators that are representative of the markets in which the financial institutions operate. FSIs are calculated and disseminated for the purpose of supporting macroprudential analysis--the assessment and surveillance of the strengths and vulnerabilities of financial systems--with a view to strengthening financial stability and limiting the likelihood of financial crises. Financial Soundness Indicators: Compilation Guide is intended to give guidance on the concepts, sources, and compilation and dissemination techniques underlying FSIs; to encourage the use and cross-country comparison of these data; and, thereby, to support national and international surveillance of financial systems.

This report constitutes the annual report of the IMF Committee on Balance of Payments Statistics (Committee). The Committee, which held its annual meeting at the European Central Bank (ECB) in Frankfurt, Germany, in October 2006, was established in 1992 to improve the availability, consistency, and reliability of balance of payments and international investment position statistics worldwide. This annual report provides an overview of recent trends in balance of payments and international investment position statistics, discusses the Committee’s work program during 2006, and reviews the issues the Committee plans to address in the coming year.

Since its April 2007 Report to the IMFC, the IEO has released its report on The IMF’s Advice on Exchange Rate Policy, continued work on three other evaluations, and issued its Annual Report for 2006–07.

The 2007 Annual Report to the Board of Governors reviews the IMF’s activities and policies during the financial year (May 1, 2006, through April 30, 2007). The financial statements of the IMF for FY2007 are available on the CD-ROM accompanying the print report. Print copies of the financial statements are also available as a stand-alone item.

The Annual Report 2007 to the Board of Governors reviews the IMF’s activities and policies during the financial year (May 1, 2006, through April 30, 2007). This year’s Report has been streamlined and translated into three more languages than in the past: Arabic, Japanese, and Russian. Besides an Overview, the chapters cover promoting financial and macroeconomic stability and growth through surveillance; program support; capacity building; technical assistance and training; and the IMF’s governance, organization, and finances. The full financial statements for the year and other appendixes are provided on a CD-ROM.

During the discussion of the conclusions of the Task Force on Prolonged Use of Fund Resources, the Executive Board requested semi annual reports on the incidence of Longer-Term Program Engagement (LTPE). This is the sixth such report which provides information through June 2006.
