This collection contains 40 papers on ecosystems in urban areas presented at a conference on the effects of watershed development and management on aquatic ecosystems, held in Snowbird, Utah, August 4-9, 1996.

Land and water management is especially critical as the use of upstream watersheds can drastically affect large numbers of people living in downstream watersheds. Coastal watersheds differ from others by their unique features, including proximity to the ocean, weather and rainfall patterns, subsurface features, and land covers.
