Buku ini ditulis berdasarkan pemerhatian semasa dan juga apa yang telah belaku semenjak dahulu lagi. Ianya ditulis bukan bermakna untuk memburukkan atau memuji mana-mana negara, bangsa ataupun individu. Tuhan menjadikan alam jagat ini untuk manusia menjaganya. Manusia yang berbagai-bagai bangsa, kaum dan kulit menduduki seluruh pelusuk dunia. Mereka harus berhubung dan hidup berbaik-baik dengan aman damai. Keadilan harus ditegakkan. Tiada bangsa atau negara-bangsa harus mendominasi negara lain. Namun apa yang dicita-citakan ini tidak mungkin akan berlaku semenjak dalulu kala sehingga sekarang ini. Apa yang telah berlaku di Timur Tengah, di Afghanistan dan lain-lain tempat lagi menunjukkan berlarutannya ketamakkan manusia. Bangsa-negara kecil dan lemah, khususnya dunia Islam, harus berwaspada terhadap kuasa-kuasa hegemonik imperialis, samada dari Barat ataupun Timur. Kuasa besar mengelilingi lautan dalam menjadi polis dunia. Mereka sentiasa bersedia untuk mencampuri hal ehwal orang lain demi untuk kepentingan ekonomi mereka. This book was written based on current observation and also what had happened in the past. It was not meant to discredit or credit any nation, race or individual whatsoever. God created the universe for mankind to take care of it. Human race of various ethnic groups and colours live in different parts of the world. They should communicate and live harmoniously and peacefully. Justice should be uphold. No nation or nation-states should dominate the other nation. However this ideal condition was never prevailed since time immemorial until the present day. What had happened in the Middle East, Afghanistan and elsewhere showed the protracted human greed. The small and weaker nation-states, especially the Muslim world, should beware of this hegemonic imperialist powers, whether it is from the West or the East. The super power is roaming the high seas policing the world. They are always ever ready to interfere in the affairs of others for their economic gain.

This is an open access book. Internationalization is one aspect of becoming qualified in this globalization era, especially for higher education levels. In this particular era when everyone is locked down due to Covid 19 Virus, the academic activity must still run. It is correlated with vision of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya as an international standard university so that it can compete with universities at national or international level. During Pandemy, many obstacles occur then it is also led with many opportunities.

The edited volume provides multiple lens to view school governance practices, exploring its modernization, ethical review, future trend, as well as the reciprocal influence of educational policy. Drawing on a wide-spread experience in the field of education governance from leading scholars, emerging scholars, doctoral research students and school principals, this book includes insights from 11 countries and economies across four continents: Asia, Europe, North America and Oceanic. Most of them are high achievers in the OECD’s PISA 2018 worldwide ranking in mathematics, science and reading. The book not only lifts to the forefront school governance educational thinking, but also acknowledges their complex evolution, especially under the current impact of COVID-19 Pandemic. We are proud to present the Proceedings of the 2nd International Conference on Religion and Education 2020 (INCRE 2020). The Center for Research and Development of Ministry of Religious Affairs of Republic of Indonesia together together with other International organizations: International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University (UNNISA) of Brunei, State Islamic University of Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, and Asosasi Ma’had Ali Indonesia (AMALI) hosted and organized the second annual conference in the general field of education and religion. The conference provided a forum for education professionals engaged in research and development to share ideas, interact with others, present their latest works, and strengthen the collaboration among academics, researchers and professionals. It was a single-track, highly selective conference attended by leading experts from academia, industry, and government. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, we organized the conference virtually in 2 days event 11-12 November 2020 with 4 keynote speakers: Prof Prof Azyumardi Azra from State Islamic University of Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Prof Abdul Wahab Abdul Rahman from International Islamic University Malaysia, Prof. Achmad Gunaryo from Research and Development, Ministry of Religious Affair, Indonesia, and Dr. Syamsi Ali from Jamaica Muslim Center, New York USA. The proceeding consisted of 34 accepted papers from the total of 82 submission papers. The proceeding consisted of 10 main areas of education and religion. They are: Modernizing madrasas in global contexts, Teacher and Education development, Student abilities in religion education, Education and Technology, World Class University in Indonesian religious university, Local wisdom and religion education, Citizenship in religion education, Religion and character education, Moderism in religion and education, and Islamic boarding school stretching. All papers have been scrutinized by a panel of reviewers who provide critical comments and corrections, and thereafter contributed to the improvement of the quality of the papers. We strongly believe that INCRE 2020 conference has become a good forum for all researcher, developers, practitioners, scholars, policy makers, especially post graduate students to discuss their understandings of current processes and findings, as well as to look at possibilities for setting-up new trends in Education and Religion. We also expect that the future INCRE conference will be as successful and stimulating, as indicated by the contributions presented in this volume.

Just like the Gutenberg revolution in the fifteenth century, which led to the emergence of non-conventional religious authority in the Christian world, the current information technology revolution, particularly through mediums such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter, has triggered the re-construction and decentralization of religious authority in Islam. New santri (pious individuals) and preachers emerged from the non-conventional religious educational system. They not only challenged the traditional authorities, but also redefine and re-conceptualize old religious terminologies, such as hijra and wasatiyya. This book explores the dynamics of religious authority in Indonesia with special attention to the challenges from the “new santri”. It is a rich and important book on religion.
