This book explores the literate and advanced cultures of two very separate groups in the Book of Mormon, (1) the Jaredites described in the book of Ether, and (2) the members of tribal Manasseh who dominate the remainder of the Book of Mormon. The first group flourished during the millennia before the arrival of the second group in a nearby area, and became extinct as a civilization not long after the arrival of that second group. Within the New World, only one complex culture arose which was literate, built great cities, and had a large population, namely the Olmec of southern Mexico -- the "mother culture" of the five subsequent advanced cultures of Mesoamerica. This book demonstrates how the Mesopotamian Jaredites brought with them a Sumero-Akkadian culture to the New World. The linguistics of Sumero-Akkadian are not only found systematically within the Jaredite onomasticon, but a comparison of Sumero-Akkadian with reconstructed ancient Olmec (Proto-Mixe-Zoque) strongly suggests the ultimate origin of that people in Mesopotamia at least 5 thousand years ago. In the second section of the book, an offshoot of tribal Manasseh (Clan Lehi) demonstrates its pervasive influence through an onomasticon almost exclusively showing derivation from Manassite names known from the Bible and archeology, and which are collocated geographically with each other and with a set of names known biblically to be associated with transjordanian tribes and southern areas, such as Midian (where Clan Lehi first goes to make good its escape from Judah).

This is a new volume from the Book of Mormon Academy at Brigham Young University. This volume explores the relationship between the Nephite and the Jaredite records culturally, politically, literarily, and theologically. The first approach is a cultural-historical lens, in which elements of Jaredite culture are discussed, including the impact of a Jaredite subculture on Nephite politics during the reign of the judges, and a Mesopotamia perspective as seership and divination, and the brother of Jared's experience as a liminal one. The second grouping looks at the book of Ether through a narratological lens, all three papers exploring different aspects of Moroni's construction of the book of Ether. The third grouping explores the book of Ether's depiction of women, as it contains one of the most descriptive, yet ambivalent female figures in the Book of Mormon, both historically and in our contemporary era. Finally, the book of Ether is reviewed via a teaching lens. In Alma 37, Alma the Younger explained the teaching value of the Jaredite records, these last two studies examine ways in which the book of Ether in particular can be taught to a modern audience.

This book is a must for the serious student of Book of Mormon geography. Written with an "outside the box" approach, it takes a new look at the subject and proposes new locations based upon the clues given by the book's prophets. The author reasons that the primary clue would be the narrow neck of land and proposes a location for that landmark. The remaining lands and cities are then located working out from this key point. Proposals for the Jaredite lands are also made, and the Jaredite and Nephite cultures compared and contrasted. The important topics of distance, direction and populations are discussed in a straight forward manner. Where possible, archeological sites are identified and correlated with the proposed geography. A location for the Hill Cumorah is suggested, and a novel method proposed for proving Book of Mormon sites. The work is appropriately illustrated with helpful maps and charts. A discussion of the various theories regarding Book of Mormon lands is also included.

Just as a growing interest in millennialism at the turn of this century has rejuvenated religious debate and questions concerning the fate of the world, so did Mormonism develop from millennial enthusiasm early in the nineteenth century. Joseph Smith, the founder of Mormonism, and a provocative, even controversial figure in history, declared that he had been given the authority to restore the true church in the latter days. The primary source of Smith's latter-day revelation is The Book of Mormon, and to fully understand his role as the founder of the Mormon faith, one must also understand The Book of Mormon and how it came to be. Unfortunately, the literature about Joseph Smith and The Book of Mormon is permeated with contradiction and controversy. In the first edition of this impressive work, David Persuitte provided a significant amount of revealing biographical information about Smith that resolved many of the controversies concerning his character. He also presented an extensive comparative analysis positing that the probable conceptual source for The Book of Mormon was a book entitled View of the Hebrews; or the Tribes of Israel in America, which was written by an early New England minister named Ethan Smith. Now in an expanded and revised second edition incorporating many new findings relating to the origin of The Book of Mormon, Mr. Persuitte's book continues to shed much new light on the path Joseph Smith took toward founding the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

BACK COVER The sequel to the Jaredite's Civilization (What the Prophet Ether couldn't Tell Us) is finally out. Book III to shortly follow. Book II tells of the life and times of the Jaredites, the greatest civilization to have ever lived on Planet Earth. It details their earliest beginnings, and enumerates some of their many achievements and accomplishments. It is first mentioned within the Book of Mormon, in Ether 1:42-44. Ether was later directed by God to remove everything about them save for their earliest beginnings at the Tower of Babel, in Iraq, and a few brief tales of their spiritual trials and wars, up to their final Civil War. Mainstream Archaeology refuses to address this civilization because it would reveal Archaeology's canards about evolution and their false narrative about the Origin of Man. The Jaredites settled and colonized South and North America, Lemuria, Antarctica, The British Isles and most of western Europe, plus the lands of China and India. For nearly 2,530-years, they maintained a world-wide civilization. My research has uncovered many details of Jaredite life and their physical characteristics that the prophet Ether was not allowed to tell us. They built all of Egypt. Their Hindu colony fought at least two internal nuclear wars. They colonized throughout our entire Solar System; most moons and all the planets have their cities, mainly covered by 7-mile high glass domes, except Jupiter and Saturn. These two planets each have possible Star War-size "moons" that could be artificial space stations. Mars used to be a moon to its now exploded primary, which is now the Asteroid Belt. Their Martian cities are so immense that New York City and Shanghai combined wouldn't be considered a nickel in a handful of change in comparison to them. Jaredite leftovers are all over Earth if one knows when to look for them. Book III details a few of their many wars, as well as their final Civil War, the first year or two which were nuclear. Through their longevity, they were able to develop their physics to the point to where they could control the weather, as well as to weaponize its component parts. And their final, long prophesied death.
