Jerry Giraffe and Feather Bird have been besties for a long time. They met in the Mountain Zoo and have had many adventures together over the years. But now they’re about to set out on an important mission. The Mountain Zoo is in need of a special flower to enhance the botanical gardens on the compound, one that can only be grown in cool climates: the SnowFlake ButterCup TreeFlower. Fortunately, Jerry’s family lives near Frosty Rain Forest, the coolest rain forest in Africa! So the two friends must locate the special flower, learn about it, and bring one home to plant in the Mountain Zoo. They’ll have to be careful, though—only with the permission of Queen Fuscia, the zebra who rules the Frosty Rain Forest, can any single flower be taken away. Can they persuade her to let them take this special plant home? In this children’s story, two animal friends go on a safari adventure to Africa, where they’ll meet with a queen and try to get a special plant for the gardens at their home zoo.

The difference between seeing and looking is essential—much like the difference, in music, between hearing and listening. In Creative Visualization, master photographer, photo educator and photo instructor Rick Sammon presents his proven methodology for creative digital photography. His signature inspiring and motivating approach opens creative avenues for photographers in a variety of genres. With easy-to-follow examples, Sammon shows you how simple changes—with visualization, composition, post-processing, and more—can mean the difference between a snapshot and a great shot. This book, illustrated with more than 300 of Rick’s photographs, includes invaluable information about exposure, composition, subject choice, lighting, mood, and depth. In the Food for Thought section, Rick offers guidelines for setting goals, getting motivated, connecting with a subject, learning, painting with light, thinking like a painter and more. In Develop Your Creative Vision, Rick takes you on an exploration of composition, exposure, making images with impact, creating a mood, altering reality, and pursuing your passion. Corrective and creative image processing techniques, as well as HDR, EDR, panoramas and black-and-white imaging, are covered in the Image Processing Specialties section. Rick also shares a chapter on self-assignments – photo challenges – that you can use to expand your photographic horizons. Canon Explorer of Light and master photographer Rick Sammon shares the secrets behind learning to see photographically, to make the necessary changes that will have a noticeable impact on your photographs Includes easy-to-follow instruction for post-processing techniques in Lightroom and Photoshop. Tips for making the best HDR and EDR images are also included, as well as illustrations of how plug-ins can help photographers awaken the artist within. Uses clear, visual examples of "photo failures" photographs side-by-side with successful ones, outlining the small, but important changes—to composition, framing, exposure, etc.—that can immediately make a significant difference

"Darwin (1871) and many African folk legends before him [...] proposed a simple but powerful explanation for the large and elongated shape. Long necks allowed giraffe to outreach presumed competitors, particularly during dry-season bottlenecks when leaves become scarce; (Simmons and Scheepers). However, this old African folk legend which is still commonly taught in high schools, fails to explain, among other things, the size differences between males and females. Giraffe cows are up to 1.5 meters shorter than the giraffe bulls, not to mention the offspring. The wide migration range of the giraffe and the low heights of the most common plants in their diet likewise argue against the dominant selection hypothesis. Also: 1) The fossil "links," which according to the theory should appear successively and replace each other, usually exist simultaneously for long periods of time. 2) Evolutionary derivations based on similarities rely on circular reasoning. 3) The giraffe has eigh t cervical vertebrae. Although the 8th vertebra displays almost all the characteristics of a neck vertebra, as an exception to the rule the first rib pair is attached there. 4) The origin of the long-necked giraffe by a macromutation is, due to the many synorganized structures, extremely improbable. 5) Sexual selection also lacks a mutational basis and, what is more, is frequently in conflict with natural selection ("head clubbing" is probably "a consequence of a long neck and not a cause"; see also Mitchell et al. 2009). 6) In contrast to the thus-far proposed naturalistic hypotheses, the intelligent design theory is basically testable. 7) The long-necked giraffes possibly all belong to the same basic type inasmuch as 8) a gradual evolution from the short-necked to the long-necked giraffe is ruled out by the duplication of a neck vertebra and the loss of a thoracic vertebra. 9) Chance mutations are principally not sufficient to explain the origin of the long-necked giraffe. 10) The intelligent design theory offers an adequate and satisfying solution to the problems and points to numerous "old" and new research projects. 11) Mitchell and Skinner present a good analysis of the selectionist problem; however, their phylogenetic hypotheses presuppose the correctness of the synthetic evolutionary theory, and their claims of "intermediate forms" are unproven (similarly summary Part 2). Part 1 shows why Dawkins and Kutschera are wrong. The scientific facts speak for design."

The general interest and attention paid to the use of the renewable natural resources of the world have increased greatly during the last decades. This is due to the environmental dilemma into which mankind has got itself by the total disregard of ecological facts and laws, the underprizing of natural resources and the overemphasis on economic develop ment, coupled with unimpeded rapid population growth and the preponderance of material istic consumption-oriented attitudes. The management and use of natural resources such as forests, grasslands, rivers and lakes were formerly considered purely in a financial context, whereas latterly, a consciousness of their social function and the indirect economic benefits which can be derived from them has developed. Thus, as regards these traditional resources, multi-use concepts comprising eco nomically oriented utilisation as well as recreational, educational and social use have be come widely accepted. Conservation of natural resources for sustainable consumptive as well as non-consumptive uses has been recognised as a key element for maintaining eco nomic development all over the world. Fortunately, the industrialised countries have started to apply this principle themselves and in their technical and financial aid to the developing Third World countries. This is manifest from policy documents such as the World Bank Policy on Development of Wild Lands, issued in 1987.
