Ksenija Magda traces the impact of the curse of Genesis and the temptation to choose the world and its power over the servant-hearted humility of Christ, on the church's interaction with women. The question of how we view, treat, oppress or empower women is not peripheral to the gospel but foundational.

An erudite and accessible survey of Jewish life and culture in the twentieth century, as reflected in seminal texts. Following The People and the Books, which "covers more than 2,500 years of highly variegated Jewish cultural expression" (Robert Alter, New York Times Book Review), poet and literary critic Adam Kirsch now turns to the story of modern Jewish literature. From the vast emigration of Jews out of Eastern Europe to the Holocaust to the creation of Israel, the twentieth century transformed Jewish life. The same was true of Jewish writing: the novels, plays, poems, and memoirs of Jewish writers provided intimate access to new worlds of experience. Kirsch surveys four themes that shaped the twentieth century in Jewish literature and culture: Europe, America, Israel, and the endeavor to reimagine Judaism as a modern faith. With discussions of major books by over thirty writers—ranging from Franz Kafka to Philip Roth, Elie Wiesel to Tony Kushner, Hannah Arendt to Judith Plaskow—he argues that literature offers a new way to think about what it means to be Jewish in the modern world. With a wide scope and diverse, original observations, Kirsch draws fascinating parallels between familiar writers and their less familiar counterparts. While everyone knows the diary of Anne Frank, for example, few outside of Israel have read the diary of Hannah Senesh. Kirsch sheds new light on the literature of the Holocaust through the work of Primo Levi, explores the emergence of America as a Jewish home through the stories of Bernard Malamud, and shows how Yehuda Amichai captured the paradoxes of Israeli identity. An insightful and engaging work from "one of America’s finest literary critics" (Wall Street Journal), The Blessing and the Curse brings the Jewish experience vividly to life.

I firmly believe going back to the Bible truth is our only source of peace and eternal security. I believe God wants to bless America as well as the entire world. But he cannot and will not until we turn back to God and repent. Psalms 51, your hope and peace can be found in none other than Jesus Christ and the whole unadulterated Word of God. May God help us all to make that commitment.

When Adam and Eve ate from the Tree of Knowledge, they became like God and the angels, knowing good and evil. For that reason, they were cast out of the garden in Eden and barred from having access to the Tree of Life, which would have provided them immortality. What would have happened to them if they had obeyed God and initially eaten from the Tree of Life? Obviously, they would no longer have been subject to death. Therefore, they would have been free from the curse surrounding the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. In fact, rather than being a deadly curse, it would have then resulted in a blessing. Jesus of Nazareth reopened the way to the Tree of Life for all mankind, but what happened to the evil tree in God's garden? ""Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; a blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day: and a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God..."" --Deuteronomy 11:26-28

Life's trials and triumphs can seem accidental. One person may feel that life is a constant struggle in which pitfalls abound and someone seems out to get him. Another may feel that every day is a gift from God with special blessings just for her. That's because forces are at work in our lives: the blessings of a loving God or the curses of our spiritual adversary. This hugely popular classic work of Derek Prince helps readers recognize if there are curses at work in their lives and shows them how to get out from under those curses to live under God's blessings. This third edition of Blessing or Curse includes an extensive new study guide for small group or individual use.

Some people are operating under a curse, while others are operating under a blessing. Blessing is a supernatural force working to promote you and to advance you. When you are operating under a blessing, you rise to heights totally beyond any logical explanation of your talents, your gifts, and your abilities. On the other hand, a curse is an invisible force that frustrates you. An invisible force that is there to make you to be left out. A curse is as if you have an invisible enemy standing on your way. It’s as if there is an invisible barrier standing in your way. There are some people, who everything they touch goes wrong. Other people may be succeeding but when they get there, it goes wrong. Such people are said to be functioning under a curse. The author further explains that blessings and curses belong to the invisible. Blessings and curses are vehicles of supernatural spiritual power. Blessings produce good and beneficial results, while curses produce bad and harmful results. We send this book out with a heart cry that as you read it, you may be able to identify whether you are acting under a curse and cooperate with God for it to be broken. On the other hand, knowing that you are functioning under a blessing would help you to in a conscious way cooperate with God to continue abiding in His blessing.

Through this book, Men cursed the Lord has blessed", I would like to testify that Jesus Christ is the One and Only Saviour of mankind. In fact, I did not know him too well until this day when I found myself in the bondages and snares of death. I thus called upon him according to Jeremiah 33:3 and he instantly responded and delivered me from these chains that entwined me. Since then, my life has never been the same again. Indeed, Jesus Christ is our final defender. In him, nothing can harm us.
