Jim Wong-Chu was the founder of the Asian Canadian Writers’ Workshop which spawned many literary stars, including Madeleine Thien, Denise Chong, and Wayson Choy. When he passed away in 2017, at the age of sixty-eight, he left not only a void in the Asian Canadian writing and publishing community but also a legacy of his own work that was never fully recognized. Jim’s poems speak eloquently to the Chinese experience in North America, both historical and present-day. This book includes Jim’s evocative Chinatown photographs, revealing the soul of a community threatened by gentrification and displacement. Frank is, as everyone knows, Jim Woodring’s best-selling cartoon character. Jim, on the other hand, is Woodring’s cartoon alter ego, the fictional doppelganger who has for 30 years inhabited Woodring’s alternate universe where shifting, phantasmagoric landscapes, abrupt, hallucinatory visual revelations, and unexpected eruptions of uninhibited verbal self-flagellation are commonplace. Jim is a mind-bending collection of all of Woodring’s best non-Frank creative work ― comics stories, prose stories, drawings, and paintings, with a new introduction and afterword by the man himself. Abounding in metaphors if you choose to see them and naked self-disclosure if you don’t, this volume of comics, prose, and images ― collected here for the first time ― is a bounty of Woodring’s inspired artistry.

Kidding Around with the King of Comedy Jim Carrey is used to being laughed at. In fact, he thrives on entertaining others. As a precocious young boy, he practiced pulling faces in the bathroom mirror -- a talent that would later prove to be instrumental in his success -- and performed self-created skits for his family. Unfortunately, his life wasn't one smooth cruise to the top. The Canadian-born funnyman's rags-to-riches tale is the stuff dreams are made of. Since his early smash hit Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, the blockbuster movie roles just keep on coming. But Carrey isn't content simply to play it safe and stick with the slapstick comedy roles he knows and performs so confidently. In fact, with releases such as The Truman Show and Man on the Moon, Carrey has challenged himself creatively and shown audiences that he is capable of demonstrating sensitivity and immense dramatic range. With his latest hit move, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, this shooting star's future just keeps getting brighter!

Co-owner of Boston Pizza and star of CBC-TV’s Dragons’ Den, Jim Treliving reveals the secrets of his success, taking you behind the scenes at critical points in the building of his businesses—which also include Mr. Lube and interests in real estate and sports franchising. Covering the “big” decisions—from what to do with your life to how to source capital, find partners, handle change and inspire growth—Treliving sets out the tools for making effective choices and explains why every decision requires action. He also discusses how to bounce back from those no-so-good decisions, explaining how to refocus and recalibrate, just as Treliving had to do when he realized that Boston Pizza’s expansion into Asia was causing the company to drift off-brand. Pulling back from Asian opportunities was a tough decision at the time, but the move became crucial to guiding successful BP expansions later on. Always candid, Treliving also shares his insights on some very public choices, ones you may have seen him make on The Big Decision or Dragons’ Den. Down to earth, sensible and filled with vision and humour, Decisions is a book for budding entrepreneurs and for those who want the inside business stories beyond what we see on TV. But it’s also for people who want to transform their companies into ones that create steady wealth and lasting success. Even if you’re not in business, Treliving’s inspiring story and astute advice will help you make wiser decisions in your life and move forward with confidence in your chosen field.

It is a spicy, humorous, well written, autobiographical novel about life in the 20th century. One hundred and sixty pages of print and pictures depict the experiences of the author, personified as Jim Hanson. During WWII Jim was shipped to Australia as the Sergeant Major of a tank destroyer battalion. He attended officer's candidate school in Australia and graduated as a Second Lieutenant. His first assignment was terminated rather unceremoniously, but he enjoyed success and promotion during his second one. After five years of service, three of which were spent overseas, he was released to the army reserves. Life with his wife and their adopted daughter, plus numerous assignments as an industrial chemist, was followed by retirement. The deaths of his wife and daughter. Loneliness and boredom led him to become a Real Estate salesman. That helped him and his second wife select their future home and he acquired two wonderful stepsons as a result of their marriage. Unfortunately his wife developed bone cancer, after a few years, and died painfully. After Jim's second marriage, he dated fifteen widows and finally met one who loved dancing. They had many happy experiences together. But property taxes and inflation created serious financial problems, so Jim arranged to share his home with two immigrant women. Jim believes that finances are only important to the extent that they enable a person to be happy, healthy and safe. Courses in success motivation, problem solving and decision making helped him greatly during the year that he was a superintendent of production. He believes that more serious study should be given to motivation and demotivation.
