Streicher (1885-1946), a radical rightist leader of the early 1920s, later a Nazi and the Gauleiter of Franconia, was a rabid antisemite and a relentless antisemitic propagandist. Presents a brief political biography, followed by an examination of his anti-Jewish views and propaganda methods. Streicher's views, as divulged in his newspaper "Der Stürmer", included extreme racism and belief in racial defilement by Jews, a Jewish world conspiracy, and an inborn Jewish hostility toward Germany and the "Aryan world". Many negative traits that Streicher ascribed to Jews were actually his own: while ascribing lasciviousness and sadism to Jews, he was lascivious and sadistic himself. Streicher's propaganda was primitive; it appealed to the most simple instincts of his readers and was built on sexual imagery (hence Streicher's nickname, "Reichspornograph"). Many leading Nazis shunned Streicher and demanded that "Der Stürmer" be closed down; however, Hitler supported Streicher's paper. Notes that during the war Streicher's views on the Final Solution were inconsistent; e.g. at times he interpreted it as mass murder and at times as isolation of Jews on some remote island. "Der Stürmer" was highly popular in Germany and was translated and reprinted by right-wing radicals worldwide. Streicher's propaganda had a strong impact on the Germans, perceptibly influencing their behavior toward the Jews.

The Nazis put a remarkable amount of effort into anti-Semitic propaganda, intending to bring ordinary Germans around to the destructive ideology of the Nazi party. Julius Streicher (1885-1946) spearheaded many of these efforts, publishing anti-Semitic articles and cartoons in his weekly newspaper, Der Stürmer, the most widely read paper in the Third Reich. Streicher won the close personal friendship of Hitler and Himmler, and drew deserved attacks from the world press. Bytwerk's biography examines Streicher's use of propaganda techniques, and the hate literature towards Jews that continued to appear after his death, bearing his influence.

What was known and understood about the nature of the Nazi dictatorship in Britain prior to war in 1939? How was Nazism viewed by those outside of Germany? The British Press and Nazi Germany considers these questions through the lens of the British press. Until now, studies that centre on British press attitudes to Nazi Germany have concentrated on issues of foreign policy. The focus of this book is quite different. In using material that has largely been neglected, Kylie Galbraith examines what the British press reported about life inside the Nazi dictatorship. In doing so, the book imparts important insights into what was known and understood about the Nazi revolution. And, because the overwhelming proportion of the British public's only means of news was the press, this volume shows what people in Britain could have known about the Nazi dictatorship. It reveals what the British people were being told about the regime, specifically the destruction of Weimar democracy, the ruthless persecution of minorities, the suppression of the churches and the violent factional infighting within Nazism itself. This pathbreaking examination of the British press' coverage of Nazism in the 1930s greatly enhances our knowledge of the fascist regime with which the British Government was attempting to reach agreement at the time.

This book investigates the anti-Semitic foundations of Nazi curricula for elementary schools, with a focus on the subjects of biology, history, and literature. Gregory Paul Wegner argues that any study of Nazi society and its values must probe the education provided by the regime. Schools, according to Wegner, play a major role in advancing ideological justifications for mass murder, and in legitimizing a culture of ethnic and racial hatred. Using a variety of primary sources, Wegner provides a vivid account of the development of Nazi education.

Explores the course of development of German seroanthropology from its origins in World War I until the end of the Third Reich. Gives an all encompassing interpretation of how the discovery of blood groups in around 1900 galvanised not only old mythologies of blood and origin but also new developments in anthropology and eugenics in the 1920s and 1930s. Boaz portrays how the personal motivations of blood scientists influenced their professional research, ultimately demonstrating how conceptually indeterminate and politically volatile the science of race was under the Nazi regime.
