This proceedings volume from the fourth decennial Lead-Zinc symposium brings together plant operators, engineers, and researchers to discuss hydrometallurgical, electrometallurgical and pyrometallurgical aspects of these commercially important metals. Lead-Zinc 2000 will emphasize both the theory and practice of the extractive metallurgy of lead and zinc including benchmark technologies; advances in lead smelting; imperial smelting technologies; commercial and novel leaching processes; solution purification; lead electrorefining; zinc electrowinning; pyrometallurgical refining of lead and zinc; lead and zinc secondaries; process fundamentals and modeling; and new processes and processing concepts. Environmental concerns associated with the processing of both metals will be considered, along with the acceptable disposal of the various slags, residues, and bleed streams produced by the industry. In addition, a select number of overview papers will be included on the economic aspects of lead and zinc, and the new applications for both metals.

The Deposit Modeling Program was founded by UNESCO-IUGS with the major aim to disseminate knowledge from scientists in more developed countries to their counterparts from less developed ones. A fringe benefit of this effort was the compilation of information on existing models and promotion of topical workshops in developing countries. This book is the result of one such workshop that took place in Delhi and Udaipur, India, in December 2001. Sediment-hosted Lead-Zinc Sulphide Deposits compiles the work of renowned economic geologists from three continents. The authors highlight the recent advances in the understanding of the temporal and tectono-stratigraphic distribution of sediment-hosted Pb-Zn sulphide ores and processes governing their genesis. The first section comprises five chapters covering some of the most important deposits of this class in Australia and Canada in detail, emphasizing their genetic models. It also includes a paper on the "geoenvironmental model," which concerns behavior before mining and resulting from mining, processing, and smelting. The second section discusses the mineralized terranes in the state of Rajasthan, northwest India, which host three major sulphide deposits. This reference is packed with color and black and white photographs, illustrations, charts, and graphs, making it a valuable, up-to-date resource for any geologist or geotechnical scientist studying major mineral deposits.

This landmark publication distills the body of knowledge that characterizes mineral processing and extractive metallurgy as disciplinary fields. It will inspire and inform current and future generations of minerals and metallurgy professionals. Mineral processing and extractive metallurgy are atypical disciplines, requiring a combination of knowledge, experience, and art. Investing in this trove of valuable information is a must for all those involved in the industry—students, engineers, mill managers, and operators. More than 192 internationally recognized experts have contributed to the handbook’s 128 thought-provoking chapters that examine nearly every aspect of mineral processing and extractive metallurgy. This inclusive reference addresses the magnitude of traditional industry topics and also addresses the new technologies and important cultural and social issues that are important today. This volume is the first comprehensive technical history of the production of zinc and brass. It describes the inception and technical development of the processes by which zinc and brass were made at various centres around the world, together with typical compositions of the resulting brasses. The essays show that technical developments were in fact continuous and consciously related from the ancient to the modern world. Continuing research and fieldwork into these subjects have resulted in important new information that is now incorporated in this completely revised edition.
