Excerpt from List of Intercepted Plant Pests, 1964-1970 The total number of interceptions submitted during the fiscal year 1964 was as compared with the previous year. This does not include certain common pests which are widespread in this country and are no long e r recorded. This year the list has been cut drastically to omit many pests p r e vion sly included that are now considered to be of little or no plant quarantine significance. Of the total identified during the year, 6, 564 were considered important enough to be reported. That figure does not include incompletely determined pests, of which were indexed for the files but were not added to the total in the tabulation this year. Excerpt from List of Intercepted Plant Pests: List of Pests Recorded During the Period January 1, 1930 to June 30, 1931, Inclusive, as Intercepted In, On, or With Plants and Plant Products Entering United States Territory; Issued March 1932 This list is compiled by the Washington office from the files maintained here. The files are made up of triplicate records, one set being filed alphabetically by pest genera, another by host genera, and a third by countries of origin. The records summarize information furnished by inspectors and collaborators (state and customs officials) of the Plant Quarantine and Control Administration. Most of the insect identifications are made by specialists of the Bureau of Entomology and the plant disease determinations by specialists of the Bureau of Plant Industry. The States of California and Florida, and the Territory of Hawaii, maintain their own staffs of specialists and make many of their own determinations. Frequently the intercepted material received 1s inadequate or has been damaged 1n transit or is in a stage that 1s not determinable. Many times the determinations show that the organism sent m is innocuous. Such interceptions, numbering some thousands, have been omitted from this list. As pointed out in previous lists of interceptions, statements as to the origin of fruits and vegetables carried as ships' stores, as well as of plants used for decora tive purposes and, in many cases, of plant materials carried by passengers, can not always be verified, but every effort is made to give the origin of such plants and plant products as accurately as possible.
