A project initiated by the Nordic Council of Ministers in 2017 and managed by the Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training. The project has been an effort to improve the follow-up of vulnerable children and young people and their families through increased cross-sectoral cooperation between services.The most important findings are to place the needs of the children and young people at the forefront and strengthen cross-sectoral collaboration.

Available online: https://pub.norden.org/nord2020-015/ Abstract [en] The well-being of children and young people, and their ability to exercise their rights, is a pre-requisite for the continued development of the Nordic region. Children and young people are therefore priority target groups for the Nordic Council of Ministers, so the Council will integrate a children’s rights and youth perspective in its work. The ambition for greater integration of a children’s rights and youth perspective also brings a responsibility to ensure that the work is based on a number of guiding principles. There must be a common minimum level of the involvement of children and young people and, above all, the work must be carried out in a way that protects and promotes children’s safety and security. This document is relevant for all situations in which children and young people are contacted or involved in the work of the Nordic Council of Ministers.

Available online: https://pub.norden.org/nord2022-006/ The First 1000 Days in the Nordic Countries is a three-year Nordic collaborative project that aims to support mental health and wellbeing during the first years of life. This report applies findings from the project's two earlier reports to propose policy recommendations to better support children’s mental health and wellbeing during the early years. Nordic governments are encouraged to: Recognize the importance of the first 1000 days of life for lifelong mental health and wellbeing; Provide comprehensive support for parents during children’s first 1000 days of life; Identify and respond systematically to risk factors early in life; Improve equity and quality in services for young children and their families; Strengthen cross-sectoral collaboration for the benefit of young children and their families; and Advance research, knowledge and understanding about the first 1000 days of life.

This edited volume investigates young people within their social contexts. The focus is on engaging young people as they transition from youth into young adulthood. Key advantages of this book are its embodiment of interdisciplinarity in gathering research across a range of diverse methods, theories, settings, and countries. Young people are investigated across thirteen countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Yemen, Ghana, Bahrain, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Iceland, Canada, Romania, and the Netherlands.

Ireland has shown a strong commitment to addressing child poverty and improving outcomes for children and young people. Responding to the needs of children and young people, particularly those most vulnerable, requires integrated policies and services. This report is part of a joint project between the OECD and the European Commission to strengthen policy and governance arrangements for tackling child poverty and improving outcomes for children and young people based on a whole-of-government approach. The report assesses recent policy, institutional and legislative developments in Ireland and compares outcomes for children and young people with those in other EU and OECD countries. It finds that despite progress, Ireland still has room for improvement on child poverty reduction, and more can be done to address the trust gap between young people in Ireland and their government. The report recommends Ireland to adopt measures to enhance inter-departmental and inter-agency co-operation, strengthen evidence-informed approaches, reinforce policy monitoring tools, and improve accountability mechanisms. It also recommends measures to support the effective implementation of Young Ireland, the National Policy Framework for Children and Young People (2023-28), and to ensure policy coherence.
