“What is it that makes both men and women think that in order to be equal, they must deny that any differences between them exist?” No one will argue that men and women approach life differently. Shields uses her life experiences to take a thoughtful, biblical, and often humorous approach to addressing some of these differences, helping men and women embrace them, and building a bridge in the dialogue between the genders. She also includes questions at the end of each chapter to facilitate that dialogue. Living in a Man’s World contains valuable insights with which I can personally identify. Very tricky of her to write a book about the female experience from a distinctly feminine perspective, and in a feminine voice to pound home in many of the lessons learned how much of our common thread of human experience has no real gender. - Tom Wetmore, Attorney I appreciated the non-male-bashing dialogue in Living in a Man’s World! It makes the book easy for both genders to read, even read together. - Khelsea Bauer, University Student While Living in a Man’s World is not primarily about women in ministry, it serves to advance that conversation. After reading it, you will know and understand more about God's calling of women. Living in a Man’s World is loving and balanced and biblical. - Tim Lale, Writer and Editor Living in a Man’s World is fantastic! It’s very easy to read, and I loved the flow between the chapters. . . . I do believe this book will help the gender relationships in the church. - Jennifer Deans, Pastor

Take action and shatter the glass ceiling with this empowering and optimistic feminist guide from the #1 New York Timesbestselling author of Dear Madam President. In an era marked by a frustrating sense of stagnation for women, Jennifer Palmieri has found a way to move beyond the bounds of patriarchy. Building on the lessons shared in Dear Madam President, Palmieri argues that women have gone as far as they can in a world made for men, and it is time to break from it. She Proclaims declares what most women know in their souls but have yet to say out loud-that they deserve something better than a life where men hold a vast majority of power and women continue to be undervalued. It is a manifesto for the second century of feminism that no longer chases a man's elusive path but proclaims the value, ambition, and emotion women have had all along to change their world by changing how they engage in it. This book celebrates the accomplishments and history of the women's movement, and through personal reflections and stories of other inspirational female leaders, Jennifer shares concrete advice and insights she's learned from her journey out of a man's world that will inspire you to boldly chart your own course in life.

Katrenia Sneed Logan is a native of Roanoke Rapids, NC. She is the daughter of the late Roy and Virginia Sneed-the fourteenth of their fifteen children. At age twenty-eight, Katrenia began preaching the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The year was 1981. Since that time, she has been in demand as an inspirational conference speaker, evangelist, Bible teacher and workshop facilitator. Katrenia has written several inspirational articles which were published in Christian magazines in the United States and abroad, but A Woman's Place In A Man's World is her first book. With the scholarly and insightful assistance of a lot of good men and women, she takes us on a spiritual quest from Genesis to Revelation-traveling through time and history-in search of the "elusive territory" labeled in 19 th Century America as "the Appropriate Sphere of Woman," a.k.a. "a woman's place." The author invites you to join her on this quest. "Put on your 'thinking cap' and consider what is said, when it was said, why it was said, and more importantly, who said it. As Paul said to Timothy, 'Consider what I say, and the Lord give you understanding.' That's the goal: understanding the Truth. For it is the Truth that sets us free to become all that God called us to be."

SHORTLISTED FOR THE WILLIAM HILL SPORTS BOOK OF THE YEAR PRIZE 2015. 'I kill a man and most people forgive me. However, I love a man and many say this makes me an evil person.' On 24 March 1962, when Emile Griffith stepped into the ring in Madison Square Garden to defend his world title against Benny Paret, he was filled with rage. During their weigh-in, the Cuban challenger had denounced Griffith as a 'faggot' and minced towards him. In the macho world of boxing, where fighters know they are engaged in the hurt game, there could be no greater insult. At that time, it was illegal for people of the same gender to have sex, or even for a bar to knowingly serve a drink to a gay person. It was an insinuation that could have had dangerous consequences for Griffith - especially as it was true. In the fight that followed, Griffith pounded Paret into unconsciousness, and the Cuban would die soon after, leaving Griffith haunted by what he had done. Despite this, he went on to fight more world championship rounds than any other fighter in history in a career that lasted for almost 20 years. In Donald McRae's first sports book in more than a decade, he weaves a compelling tale of triumph over prejudice - Griffith was black, so doubly damned by contemporary society, but refused to cower away as society wished. A Man's World is sure to become a classic piece of sports writing.

Men who do "women's work" have consistently been the butt of jokes, derided for their lack of drive and masculinity. In this eye-opening study, Christine Williams provides a wholly new look at men who work in predominantly female jobs. Having conducted extensive interviews in four cities, Williams uncovers how men in four occupations—nursing, elementary school teaching, librarianship, and social work—think about themselves and experience their work. Contrary to popular imagery, men in traditionally female occupations do not define themselves differently from men in more traditional occupations. Williams finds that most embrace conventional, masculine values. Her findings about how these men fare in their jobs are also counterintuitive. Rather than being surpassed by the larger number of women around them, these men experience the "glass escalator effect," rising in disproportionate numbers to administrative jobs at the top of their professions. Williams finds that a complex interplay between gendered expectations embedded in organizations, and the socially determined ideas workers bring to their jobs, contribute to mens' advantages in these occupations. Using a feminist psychoanalytic perspective, Williams calls for more men not only to cross over to women's occupations, but also to develop alternative masculinities that find common ground with traditionally female norms of cooperation and caring. Until the workplace is sexually integrated and masculine and feminine norms equally valued, it will unfortunately remain "still a man's world."
