Longman English Grammar

This book provides grammar exercises for students working with a teacher. The book can be used in any order depending on the personal needs of the students and the exercises are not arranged in order of increasing difficulty, but are marked with asterisks to indicate their relative degree of difficulty.

This is a text-based practice and reference book of grammar for upper intermediate and advanced students who are working on their own or with a teacher. The book is designed to compliment and extend the grammar presented in conventional coursebooks and is also suitable for those working for the Cambridge Advanced English and Proficiency exams.

The completely redesigned Grammar of Spoken and Written English is a comprehensive corpus-based reference grammar. GSWE describes the structural characteristics of grammatical constructions in English, as do other reference grammars. But GSWE is unique in that it gives equal attention to describing the patterns of language use for each grammatical feature, based on empirical analyses of grammatical patterns in a 40-million-word corpus of spoken and written registers.
