Louisa May Alcott grew up in an intellectual environment-Emerson, Hawthorne, and Thoreau were family friends. However, despite the intellectual richness of her family she was driven to make money. She wrote from an early age and is famous for creating the semi-autobiographical 'Little Women'. Lulu's Library is a collection of short stories in three volumes, with a total of 32 short stories. This volume one.

Louisa May Alcott (November 29, 1832 – March 6, 1888) was an American novelist, short story writer and poet best known as the author of the novel Little Women (1868). Her youngest sister May died in 1879 and Louisa took over the care of her niece, Lulu, who was named after Louisa and hence the name of these books – this being the second of three volumes. Alcott just managed to complete the 3 volumes as a lasting reminder for Lulu before she, herself, passed. The 12 stories in this volume were previously published by Alcott under the title "Flower Fables", they are: 1. Recollections of My Childhood 2. A Christmas Turkey, and How It Came 3. The Silver Party 4. The Blind Lark 5. Music and Macaroni 6. The Little Red Purse 7. Sophie's Secret 8. Dolly's Bedstead 9.
