A prophesy that rules me. A curse that ruins me. A wolf shifter pack who claim I am theirs. It wasn’t my choice to be sold to a powerful psychopath by my mother when I was a baby. It wasn’t my choice to be tortured for magic I don’t possess but no-one says no to Esoti and lives. Except me. There are worse things than death. Not dying, for one. In a world ruled by The Six, anyone magical is put to death, shifters are slaves and I am the lowest of the low. Until Alpha wolves Alerick, Jarom and Eike capture me. The thing is, I don’t want to be anyone’s Mate, or toy, or plaything. They insist I’m anything but human, mastering my body and unleashing ancient magic hidden deep inside me. The magic is untamaable. Unpredictable. But it just might give me the one thing I’ve always dreamed about—revenge. Magic Claimed is the first book in a dystopian romance series. This action-packed, heart-wrenching ride gives you a kickass heroine, three irresistible shifters, a steamy romance with no choosing required, and evil enemies like you've never seen it before in each book.

After Maeve O’Neill’s rash decision to free magic, Boston is under lockdown as it spreads across the city. The whole world is in shock. Maeve must prove that normal people can control their new abilities before DODSI, the secret government agency overseeing magic, makes good on its threats of imprisonment or possibly worse. But she isn’t making progress as the New Alliance questions her decision to unbind Earth’s magic and she’s forced to cover for Silas while the Fates send him on mysterious errands. When Maeve accidentally releases a creature from another realm onto the city streets, her face is splashed all over the news and DODSI demands that she figure out a way to rebind magic or face dire consequences. Maeve has to find a way to keep magic free while protecting her people, but she realizes someone is working against her when unexplained tears between realms open all around Boston, spewing unearthly creatures into the city. She can’t trust the government or her own people, and thanks to their deal with the Fates, she can’t even trust Silas. The only option left? Turning to old enemies.

Raising the Devil reveals how the Christian Pentecostal movement, right-wing conspiracy theories, and an opportunistic media turned grassroots folk traditions into the Satanism scare of the 1980s. During the mid-twentieth century, devil worship was seen as merely an isolated practice of medieval times. But by the early 1980s, many influential experts in clinical medicine and in law enforcement were proclaiming that satanic cults were widespread and dangerous. By examining the broader context for alleged "cult" activity, Bill Ellis demonstrates how the image of contemporary Satanism emerged during the 1970s. Blaming a wide range of mental and physical illnesses on in-dwelling demons, a faction of the Pentecostal movement became convinced that their gifts of the spirit were being opposed by satanic activities. They attributed these activities to a "cult" that was the evil twin of true Christianity. In some of the cases Ellis considers, common folk beliefs and rituals were misunderstood as evidence of devil worship. In others, narratives and rituals themselves were used to combat satanic forces. As the media found such stories more and more attractive, any activity with even remotely occult overtones was demonized in order to fit a model of absolute good confronting evil. Ellis's wide-ranging investigation covers ouija boards, cattle mutilation, graveyard desecration, and "diabolical medicine"--the psychiatric community's version of exorcism. He offers a balanced view of contentious issues such as demonic possession, satanic ritual abuse, and the testimonies of confessing "ex-Satanists." A trained folklorist, Ellis seeks to navigate a middle road in this dialog, and his insights into informal religious traditions clarify how the image of Satanism both explained and created deviant behavior.
