Marine Corps Reference Publication (MCRP) 3-35.1A, Small Unit Leader's Guide to Mountain Warfare Operations, is a reference for all Marine leaders (team through company) to use when conducting operations in mountainous terrain, snow, cold weather, and/or high altitude. This publication is to be used in conjunction with the Marine Corps Warfighting Publication 3-35.1, Mountain Warfare Operations, and its other associated MCRPs 3-35.1B, Mountain Leader's Guide to Winter Operations; 3-35.1C, Mountain Leader's Guide to Mountain Warfare Operations; and 3-35.1D, Cold Region Operations. The series covers a broad spectrum of individual and small unit tactics, techniques, and procedures across all six warfighting functions. Topics include the environment, specialized clothing and equipment, weapons considerations, patrolling considerations, route selection and navigation, basic avalanche hazard assessment and mitigation, crossing streams/ice, snowshoeing, winter camouflage, logistics, fire support, helicopter operations, and casualty evacuation. It stresses only the skills necessary for Marines to function in combat. Because of the rapid turnover in personnel, operational tempo, and the multitude of training commitments, the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center cannot train all Marines or units. In combat, Marines may need to learn through doctrinal references that are augmented with instruction from their unit's qualified summer and winter mountain leaders. Marine Corps Techniques Publication MCTP 12-10A (Formerly MCWP 3-35.1) Mountain Warfare Publication 2 May 2016, is a reference for all unit commanders and their staffs (trained or untrained in mountain warfare) and all leaders from the company level through regiment or brigade for use in operations that occur in mountainous terrain, snow, or cold weather. This publication is designed to be used with Marine Corps Reference Publication (MCRP) 3-35.1A, Small Unit Leader's Guide to Mountain Warfare Operations; MCRP 3-35.1B, Mountain Leader's Guide to Winter Operations; MCRP 3-35.1C, Mountain Leader's Guide to Mountain Warfare Operations; and MCRP 3-35.1D, Cold Region Operations. These publications cover a broad range of unit planning considerations that can be used across a range of military operations. This publication references formal individual and collective mountain warfare training programs available within the Department of Defense. This USMC manual, Marine Corps Reference Publication MCRP 12-10.1 (3-11.1B) Small-Unit Leader's Guide to Weather and Terrain Change 1 April 2018, provides basic information on weather and terrain and their effects on military operations. This manual is applicable to small-unit leaders and commanders and to the staffs of small units. MCRP 12-10.1 is also a basis for instruction and for use by personnel developing equipment and doing studies for the Marine Corps.

Marine Corps Reference Publication MCRP 3-30.7 (Formerly MCRP 3-11.1A) Commander's Tactical Handbook 2 May 2016 Marine Corps Reference Publication (MCRP) 3-11.1A, Commander's Tactical Handbook, contains reference material frequently used to organize, plan, and conduct Marine ground combat operations. Its intent is to assist small unit leaders functioning at the company level and below, but it also serves as a field reference guide for all Marine leaders. Leaders of combat support and combat service support organizations should familiarize themselves with the contents of this publication to understand the operational sup-port requirements discussed.

From the Foreword: The following account represents a significant look at a half century of U.S. Marine Corps effort in the Sierra Nevada mountain range of California. This has been and is still the location of the Corps cold weather and mountain training facility. Over time the needs and demands for Marines and units prepared to operate under these conditions waxed and waned with the real world requirements of deployed forces. This was reflected in the realities of conflicts in the Korean Peninsula, the Cold War's northern and southern flanks, and in the current Global War in Terrorism fight in Afghanistan and elsewhere. While the future is often uncertain, this firm look at the past is useful to show how previous challenges have prompted creative and innovative responses. This Army tactics, techniques, and procedures (ATTP)/Marine Corps reference publication (MCRP) is the Army's doctrinal publication for operations in the cold region environment. Marines can utilize this publication as an operational reference with the 3-35 doctrinal series. It provides doctrinal guidance and direction for how United States (U.S.) forces conduct cold region operations. The purpose of ATTP 3-97.11/MCRP 3-35.1D is to arm leaders, Soldiers, and Marines with the necessary knowledge on how to operate in cold region environments. The information contained in this manual applies to all Soldiers and Marines, regardless of rank or job specialty. This manual is designed to work with and complement field manual (FM) 3-97.6, Mountain Operations, and FM 3-97.61, Military Mountaineering. This manual will enable leaders, Soldiers, and Marines to accurately describe cold region environments, their effects on military equipment, impacts these environments have on personnel, and most importantly, how to employ the elements of combat power in cold region environments. This ATTP provides the conceptual framework for conventional forces to conduct cold region operations within the construct of full spectrum operations, across the spectrum of conflict. It addresses cold region operations at operational and tactical levels. Chapter 1 discusses the characteristics of the cold region environment. Chapter 2 discusses the operations process. Chapter 3 identifies and discusses special considerations for operations in a cold region environment. Chapter 4 discusses how to conduct movement and maneuver in a cold region environment. Chapter 5 discusses how to apply sustainment principles unique to cold regions. Chapter 6 discusses how to apply combat power in the cold region environment. The two appendixes detail the special uniform, equipment, and heaters necessary in the cold region environment. This publication applies to the Active Army, the Army National Guard (ARNG)/Army National Guard of the United States (ARNGUS), United States Army Reserve (USAR), Marine Corps, and Marine Corps Reserve unless otherwise stated. Note for Marines: This manual is intended as an operational-level reference only. Some differences apply in clothing, equipment, vehicles, and aircraft (items the Marine Corps has that the Army does not and vice versa). These Marine Corps-specific differences and tactical-level differences (arising from the employment of heavy vice light infantry) are covered in MCRP 3-35.1A, Small-Unit Leader's Guide to Cold Weather Operations.
