This comprehensive volume provides teachers, researchers and education professionals with cutting edge knowledge developed in the last decades by the educational, behavioural and neurosciences, integrating cognitive, developmental and socioeconomic approaches to deal with the problems children face in learning mathematics. This book examines recent and on-going Nordic research and development in teaching and learning mathematics for those pupils with mathematical difficulties. The topics discussed include: the learning environment and social setting, learning communities and teaching approaches, and creative learning that contrasts traditions of rote and imitative learning.
