That plan was to give a distinct chapter to each writer, without regard to the importance of the work which he published, or to the position which he filled. This was found on experience to be attended with some practical dis advantage. But in the present volume, to each of the more prominent writers only a separate chapter is given, while all the others are grouped together in a single chapter at the end.
