Two hypothesis on the nature of aging are debated: does each cell have its ownbiological cells, or does a limited group of cells function to regulate aging for the entire body? Metabolic aspects of senescence in plants; exercise, diet, drugs, hormones, genetics, and the immune response in relation to aging are examined. Physiological changes in the aging brain are described. Special problems of old age, including biosenescence, are discussed.
