Mi Taku Ye Oyasin

Winner of the 1992 "Top 50" Recognition Award at the Frankfort International Bookfair, Mitakuye Oyasin is an American Indian "Roots" story. It compares the myths and legends of the American Indian with the world's major philosophies and religions. The books is in its 5th printing. It is a bestseller in Europe with translations in French and German. The book is being used in 27 universities and 182 high schools. This book is a mix of love, loss, the past, respect and survival. This planet we live on (Mother Earth) is in peril, of this no one should have any doubts. The issue is awareness, and whether we are to be part of the problem or part of the solution. What we do now will determine not simply issues of quality of life, but of life itself. If we continue to poison the air, water and seas, this home of ours will die! He drove to work sipping coffee from a Styrofoam cup, and when he finished he pitched it to the side of the road; it is only one Styrofoam cup, after all. “Land of Nakoda” is a vivid account of the history, legends, customs, crafts, and ceremonies of the Assiniboine Indians of the northern plains. First published in 1942, it was written and illustrated by tribal members who interviewed the Old Ones, the tribal elders, in their native language. Many of the stories predate Lewis and Clark and were passed down through a dynamic oral tradition. Using clear and precise writing, “Land of Nakoda” accurately describes tribal legends, daily life, lodging, food, courtship and marriage, children’s games, buffalo hunting, tools and weapons, religious ceremonies and secret societies, medicine men and spirits, and the coming of the white men. There is a belief that a Native American tribe, the Lakota (Sioux) believe in. That is, there is one Creator and that everything that is living in the Universe is our relative.
