This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 5th Mexican International Conference on Artificial Intelligence, MICAI 2006, held in Apizaco, Mexico in November 2006. It contains over 120 papers that address such topics as knowledge representation and reasoning, machine learning and feature selection, knowledge discovery, computer vision, image processing and image retrieval, robotics, as well as bioinformatics and medical applications.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 6th Mexican International Conference on Artificial Intelligence, MICAI 2007, held in Aguascalientes, Mexico, in November 2007. The 116 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions for inclusion in the book. The papers are organized in sections on topics that include computational intelligence, neural networks, knowledge representation and reasoning, agents and multiagent systems.

The Mexican International Conference on Artificial Intelligence (MICAI), a yearly international conference series organized by the Mexican Society for Artificial Intel- gence (SMIA), is a major international AI forum and the main event in the academic life of the country’s growing AI community. In 2008 Mexico celebrates the 50th an- versary of development of computer science in the country: in 1958 the first computer was installed at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Nowadays, computer science is the country’s fastest growing research area. The proceedings of the previous MICAI events were published by Springer in its Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence (LNAI) series, vol. 1793, 2313, 2972, 3789, 4293, and 4827. Since its foundation in 2000, the conference has been growing in popularity, and improving in quality. This volume contains the papers presented at the oral session of the 7th Mexican International Conference on Artificial Intelligence, MICAI 2008, held October 27–31, 2008, in Atizapán de Zaragoza, Mexico. The conference received for evaluation 363 submissions by 1,032 authors from 43 countries (see Tables 1 and 2). This volume contains revised versions of 94 papers by 308 authors from 28 countries selected - cording to the results of an international reviewing process. Thus the acceptance rate was 25.9%. The 120 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 423 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on knowledge representation and management, logic and constraint programming, uncertainty reasoning, multiagent systems and distributed AI, computer vision and pattern recognition, machine learning and data mining, evolutionary computation and genetic algorithms, neural networks, natural language processing, intelligent interfaces and speech processing, bioinformatics and medical applications, robotics, modeling and intelligent control, and intelligent tutoring systems.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 19th Conference of the Canadian Society for Computational Studies of Intelligence, Canadian AI 2006, held in Québec City, Canada in June 2006. The book presents 47 carefully reviewed, revised full papers. These are organized in topical sections on agents, bioinformatics, constraint satisfaction and distributed search, knowledge representation and reasoning, natural language, reinforcement learning and, supervised and unsupervised learning.

The Mexican International Conference on Artificial Intelligence (MICAI) is a biennial conference established to promote research in artificial intelligence (AI), and cooperation among Mexican researchers and their peers worldwide. MICAI is organized by the Mexican Society for Artificial Intelligence (SMIA), in colla- ration with the American Association for Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) and the Mexican Society for Computer Science (SMCC). After two successful conferences, we are pleased to present the 3rd Mexican International Conference on Artificial Intelligence, MICAI 2004, which took place on April 26-30, 2004, in Mexico City, Mexico. This volume contains the papers included in the conference main program, which was complemented by tutorials and workshops, published in supplementary proceedings. The proceedings of past MICAI conferences, 2000 and 2002, were also published in Springer-Verlag's Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence (LNAI) series, volumes 1793 and 2313. The number of submissions to MICAI 2004 was significantly higher than those of previous conferences -- 254 papers from 19 different countries were submitted for consideration to MICAI 2004. The evaluation of this unexpectedly large number of papers was a challenge, both in terms of the quality of the papers and of the review workload of each PC member. After a thorough reviewing process, MICAI's Program Committee and Programs Chairs accepted 97 hi- quality papers. So the acceptance rate was 38.2%. CyberChair, a free Web-based paper submission and reviewing system, was used as an electronic support for the reviewing process. This book contains revised versions of the 94 papers presented at the conference. The volume is structured into 13 thematic fields according to the topics addressed by the papers, which are representative of the main current area of interest within the AI community.

The 60 revised full papers presented with six invited contributions were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 163 submissions from 17 countries. The book is divided into sections on knowledge representation and reasoning, robotics and computer vision, machine learning, neural networks, knowledge-based systems, speech recognition and natural language, multiagent systems, reasoning under uncertainty, and intelligent tutoring systems.
