Modern Transport Telematics

This book constitutes the proceedings of the 11th International Conference on Transport Systems Telematics, TST 2011, held in Katowice-Ustron, Poland, in October 2011. The 47 papers included in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in this book. Transport telematics systems are information technologies that are used in the field of transport, including infrastructure, vehicles and users. Intelligent transport systems are advanced applications that are to provide innovative services for the various modes of transport and traffic management. Also they should enable users to be better informed and make safer, more coordinated and smarter use of transport networks. Telematic services integrate telecommunications, electronics and information technology in transport engineering in order to plan, design, operate, maintain and manage transport systems.

A major strategy to reduce transport congestion and other social costs of transport is to ensure that travellers make the best decisions, based on real time information. A wide range of technological systems have been developed to provide this information, but little is known about how travellers actually respond to it. This book offers an overview of various transport telematics options and provides an appropriate methodological framework, followed by a presentation of results from actual applications of these telematics systems from a range of European countries in various transport sectors. The empirical results are supplemented by analytical models and geographic information systems representations with a view on generalizing these findings and identifying the key parameters which determine user response.

This book contains an abundance of numerical analyses based on significant data sets, illustrating importance of environmentally friendly solutions requiring transport networks to be redesigned or clean zones to be implemented. What kind of steps should be taken to redesign transport network? How to evaluate efficiency or flexibility of transport system and city logistics? What factors can be taken into account in the process of optimizing the functioning of public transport or paid parking zones? How to optimize supply chains (including last mile delivering and routing problem)? Which of the multi-criteria methods should be applied to support decision making processes while tackling problems of global transport systems? Answers to these and many other questions can be found in this book.With regard to the research results discussed and the selected solutions applied, the book entitled "Decision support methods in modern transportation systems and networks" primarily addresses the needs of three target groups: · Scientists and researchers (ITS field) · Local authorities (responsible for the transport systems at the urban and regional level) · Representatives of business (traffic strategy management) and industry (manufacturers of ITS components).

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed proceedings of the 16th International Conference on Transport Systems Telematics, TST 2016, held in Katowice-Ustrón, Poland, in March 2016. The 37 full and 5 short papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 110 submissions. They present and organize the knowledge from within the field of intelligent transportation systems, the specific solutions applied in it and their influence on improving efficiency of transport systems.

This book constitutes the proceedings of the 14th International Conference on Transport Systems Telematics, TST 2014, held in Katowice/Kraków and Ustroń, Poland, in October 2014. The 49 papers included in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 125 submissions. The papers provide an overview of solutions being developed in the fields of transport telematics and intelligent transport systems.

This book constitutes selected papers from the 19th International Conference on Transport Systems Telematics, TST 2019, held in Jaworze, near Bielsko-Biala, Poland, in March 2019. The 31 full papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 104 submissions. They were organized in topical sections named: telematics in rail transport; telematics in road transport; telematics in marine transport; telematics in air transport; and general about telematics.

This book contributes to the identification and systematisation of current telematics solutions applied in maritime and inland waterway transport. It represents the first time that most telematics systems currently applied in the modes of water transport have been described in detail. The volume details the massive scope of the application of telematics solutions in maritime transport, showing how it ranges from simple systems of navigation to unmanned systems which have resulted in the first attempts at launching fully autonomic vessels. The current challenges in the field involve the integration of the systems of maritime and inland waterway transport within the framework of multimodal transport operations.
