This international meeting on ultrahigh energy multiparticle phenomena started with a summary of neutrino physics, followed by a detailed review of LEP results. It moved on to the fast-breaking field of rapidity gaps, hard pomeron and small-x structure functions at both Hera and the FermiLab Tevatron. The major collider experiments at FermiLab, and in particular, the results of the top quark search were presented in complete detail. The fields of intermittency, multiplicities, correlation functions, heavy quarks, soft and semihard hadronic physics, and the particle physics aspects of cosmic rays were subjects of spirited debate.

This volume discusses the most recent results on multiparticle production. These include the differences between quark and gluon jets from LEP at CERN, the search for the disoriented chiral condensate at Fermilab, the existence (or not) of the quark-gluon plasma and the large rapidity gaps in Hera physics. This book deals with the most recent achievements in the following areas of high energy physics: physics of e+e- collisions, lepton-nucleon scattering, relativistic heavy ion collisions (the quest for quark-gluon plasma), and multiparticle production. New experimental results from Tevatron, LEP, SPS and HERA and the theoretical progress in the aforementioned fields are presented.

Multiparticle dynamics is tightly connected with the fundamental properties of the QCD vacuum. This was reflected in the Scientific Programme of the XXVIII International Symposium on Multiparticle Dynamics. Emphasis was given during the sessions to the collective phenomena at high energies, including: fluctuations and correlations, quark-gluon plasma, QCD phase transitions (fractals, intermittency, wavelets), the QCD structure of the Pomeron, and new aspects of multiplicity distributions.

By adopting the approach of simulating actual morning report sessions experienced by hospital doctors, Clinical Case Studies in Pediatrics provides a compendium of commonly seen types of pediatrics cases that require hospital admission. The ISMD 2005 conference reviewed and updated the theoretical and experimental understanding of multiparticle production in high energy collisions. About half of the papers discussed collisions of ultra-relativistic nuclei with recent results from RHIC. In addition, some intriguing results from HERA and Tevatron colliders were presented and future experiments were discussed as well. Following the ISMD conference, the Workshop on Particle Correlations and Femtoscopy was held for the first time. This new series of regular workshops presents a critical and thorough analysis of the latest results on particle interferometry in high energy heavy ion collisions. Thefocus on this rather narrow subject was stimulated by a wealth of new data arriving steadily from the RHIC and SPS experiments.
