My Music Journal is a combination of nine books. Each book complies with both state and national standards for music education. The book offers a progression of learning-forms, activities and assignments. The inclusion of literature serves as a basic guide for elementary students, teachers and parents. It allows them a unique way to learn together. We have found a perfect way to bring both personal and professional relationships closer thru music. These books offer a natural progression. Offering a smooth transition for students from Kindergarten through eighth-grade. The textbooks bring the art of music to light and will encourage students throughout. My Music Journal engages students and gets them excited to learn about music theory and education. The author makes a conscious effort to think like a student in order to make the learning process flow. She has found a way to teach music without the normal stress and angst. The information is presented in a unique way, designed to meet the students' learning needs. Each student receives an individual textbook complete with lessons on music theory, music history, songs, instruments, and more. The lessons are presented in a logical order and have been categorized to cover eight primary conceptual areas. My Music Journal is filled with activities and puzzles to keep the student engaged. It is also equipped with written assessments and quizzes to truly gauge the students' progress. Students will learn music through several facets including: reading music from scores; identifying music styles and instruments aurally; and learning to play a variety of instruments. Each textbook is designed to provide a full year of music education curriculum and are categorized by grade level. My Music Journal textbooks are available at the following levels: Kindergarten; first grade; second grade; third grade; fourth grade; fifth grade, sixth grade, seventh grade and eighth grade levels. The first installment in the My Music Journal, designed for first grade students, will begin to teach students of the basics of music theory and how they are applied to create music. Students will learn the basics of rhythm and beats, introductory sheet music, such as quarter notes, half notes, and rests, and how notes and beats are related to one another. This textbook will teach students the basics of pitch and tone, and will apply these lessons through the use of singing select songs. Visual and audio identification of several basic instruments, such as pianos and guitars, will be taught throughout the this first course.From this first installment, students will also begin to grasp the basic concepts of tempo and dynamics, learning when music gets faster or slower as well as softer or louder. This textbook will begin to introduce students to vocabulary as it relates to lyrics, for example, chorus, verse, introduction, and coda. The students will also gain a brief introduction into music history and style, learning about music from several different cultures and time periods. These lessons will be applied as students will perform along with select instrumental and vocal pieces.

They will also be taught a wider array of rhythm symbols, such as sixteenth and smaller notes, as well as the corresponding rests. This textbook will teach students a wider array of melodic information, including sharps, flats, and naturals. Students will learn the treble staff, as well as the corresponding notes for this staff. An introduction to scales will also be found in this installment, engaging students in simple melodies using the pentatonic scale.Students will be able to recognize the markings of a score, including DC al fine, 1st ending, 2nd ending, repeat, and fine.
