The Mysterious Universe is a science book by the British astrophysicist Sir James Jeans. It is an expanded version of the Rede Lecture delivered at the University of Cambridge in 1930, and begins with a full-page citation of the famous passage in Plato’s Republic, Book VII, laying out the allegory of the cave. It makes frequent reference to the quantum theory of radiation, begun by Max Planck in 1900, to Einstein’s general relativity, and to the new theories of quantum mechanics of Heisenberg and Schrödinger, of whose philosophical perplexities the author seemed well aware. This New Revised Edition was first published in 1932. A popular book to this day, and a valuable addition to any reader’s science book collection.

A Mysterious Universe introduces the fundamental laws of quantum mechanics, theory of relativity, and cosmology to a novice in simple language. This concise book deals with deep issues related to the mysteries of modern physics. Both quantum mechanics and relativity are highly mathematical subjects and are not easily accessible. In 2020, the author wrote a book Quantum Mechanics for Beginners with the aim of introducing the fundamentals of quantum theory to someone with elementary knowledge of physics and algebra. Here he goes one step further and introduces these ideas to someone with no prior knowledge of physics and mathematics. In the first part of the book, topics like the wave-particle duality, the probabilistic nature of the measurement, the possibility of multiple universes, and the nature of reality are discussed. In the second part, Einstein's special and general theories of relativity and their amazing and mind-boggling consequences are presented. The impact of the theory of relativity on cosmology is immense. The big bang model of the universe, black holes, and the current hot topics of dark matter and dark energy are explained and discussed. These fields that may hold the key to many unanswered questions about the universe are still evolving. This book is intended for readers, young and old, who would like to understand the incomprehensible laws that govern the universe without any prior background in physics and mathematics.

Our world of perception is restricted to a specific limit. There is a limit to our world of feelings. Beyond the world of feelings, there is a huge world as well. Whatever would happen, it was predestined. That is, the event will happen as it happened. The past cannot be changed. The events that will happen in the future will happen that way. No one can change the future. Whatever would happen, it was predestined. If we try to change the past or the future in any way, then we must understand that it was the same way. That was universal programming. As long as there was only one universe, this rule of universal programming followed. But after having multiple universes, the same event can happen in different ways in different universes. We can even say that to make these events happen in different ways, the universal programming is messed up. Different universes are created to fix it.

The universe is rapidly expanding. Of that much scientists are certain. But how fast? And with what implications regarding the fate of the universe? Ellen Jackson and Nic Bishop follow Dr. Alex Fillippenko and his High-Z Supernova Search Team to Mauna Kea volcano in Hawaii, where they will study space phenomena and look for supernovae, dying stars that explode with the power of billions of hydrogen bombs. Dr. Fillippenko looks for black holes--areas in space with such a strong gravitational pull that no matter or energy can escape from them--with his robotic telescope. And they study the effects of dark energy, the mysterious force that scientists believe is pushing the universe apart, causing its constant and accelerating expansion.

Our Astronomy Handbook covers much the same ground as the three preceding Astronomy Catalogs, but in more detail. For example, the quotations are much more extensive [Picture caption: Unexplained rift in the zodiacal light] Typical subjects covered: The lost satellite of Venus * Transient lunar phenomena * Ephemeral earth satellites * Venus' radial spoke system * Relativlty contradicted * Cosmological paradoxes * Changes in light's velocity * Vulcan; the intramercurial planet * Knots on Saturn's rings * Bright objects near the sun * The Sun's problematical "companion star" * "Sedimentary" meteorites * Life chemistry in outer space * Planet positions and sunspots. ... A SYNTHESIS OF MODERN LIFE: A VISIONARY OVERVIEW OF THE EFFORT AND MISSION OF HUMANITY by Shamcher Bryn Beorse (Brynjolf Bjorset) The book Man and this Mysterious Universe was originally described as a synthesis of the many aspects of modern civilization, bringing within its scope the contribution of the East as well as of the West, showing how it has grown from the civilization of the past and how it will probably develop into the civilization of the future. Or as the author put it more simply: a survey of Western and Eastern Sciences. Ranging through various disciplines from Everyday Life, Art, Education, World Events and Mysticism, Beorse describes the evolution of humanity and the responsibilities of each of us in this process. Seen all together, they convey an image of the totality of the human endeavour: occurring both outside of time and in time, on schedule, as a great play. "This comprehensive and refreshing picture is sorely needed at this time of narrow outlook and overspecialization," wrote the distinguished psychologist, educator and author, Dr. Philip B. Ballard. Inspired to write by the great sage, Inayat Khan, Beorse combined three former works into one for Man and This Mysterious Universe. Written during WWII, then added to with new information, the book was first published in 1949. His previous work, Distribute or Destroy, had been in the field of economics. Beorse further widened his scope in this publication, whose title refers to the popular physics book by James Jeans, This Mysterious Universe. Here Beorse inserts humanity into this assessment of a universe of vibrations and events, creating Man and This Mysterious Universe. "There is no great difference between rock, a tree, a man or a loving thought carving its way through the universe like a ray of the sun."
