Nameless By: Jerry Beasley They seldom smile or they laugh too long, too loud. They are at the center of activity, effectively leading to accomplish goals or they are quiet at the perimeter, contributing little. Pretty, handsome, well-groomed, simple, plain; age, gender, socioeconomic standing—nothing appears to be a common factor. The sense of non-entity, loneliness, namelessness can happen to anyone, at any time, and for any length of time. Everyone is vulnerable. It’s part of being a human being. Before retiring from teaching, Jerry Beasley observed the void, the emptiness in some of the high school students in her classroom, as well as in teaching peers and administrators. She witnessed the same emotional abyss in relatives, church family, neighbors, and friends, wordlessly screaming out for someone to pay attention, to care, to emotionally involve themselves, to name them as a peer, a friend, a family member, a mentor. Times of despair come for everyone, but the God that created us is always with us. He will not forsake us. He will offer us the peace that passes all understanding. Peace that comes with having nothing between Him and us. When we seek professional or pastoral help, we need to remember He is only a prayer away.

Is learning disability determined from birth? Psychoanalysis has always striven to reconstruct damaged human subjectivity. However, with a few exceptions, people with learning disabilities have long been excluded from this enterprise as a matter of course. It has been taken for granted that learning disability is a deficient state in which psychodynamics play but a minor role and where development is irrevocably determined by organic conditions. First published in German in 1980s and published here in English for the first time, this brave and provocative book was one of the first to attempt to understand learning disabilities in terms of psychoanalysis and socio-psychology. Controversially, the author does not distinguish between a primary organic handicap and a secondary psychological one; rather, she argues that it is developed from the very outset of the process of socialisation during the interaction of caregiver and infant, and therefore gives the analyst room to work on this maladapted socialisation. She illustrates the effectiveness of this theory when put into practice in a number of illuminating case studies. Still as influential and powerful as when it was first published, Nameless will be of interest to psychoanalysts and clinicians from across the mental health services who work with people with learning disabilities.

One girl must make a name for herself--or die trying--in this royal fantasy where an unknown peasant becomes the ultimate ruler. But how long can she keep the crown if everyone wants her dead? Perfect for fans of Furyborn, Red Queen, and Everless. Everyone expected the king's daughter would inherit the throne. No one expected me. It shouldn't be possible. But there's no denying the tattoo emblazoned on my arm. I am to be queen. In a palace where the corridors are more dangerous than the streets, though, how could I possibly rule? And what will become of the Nameless if I don't? "A thrilling tale of identity and found family wrapped up in epic, politically-charged worldbuilding. In this captivating volume, Bernd Nissen considers the multiplicity of nameless states, and the impact of their discovery on psychoanalytic theory and practice. The nameless is considered through a variety of lenses: trauma, unrepresented states, autistoid/autistic states, breakdown, non-existence, and unrepressed/unstructured consciousness. Nissen draws upon the work of Freud and Bion to inform his exploration of nameless states and the ways in which they might be located, understood and conceptualised. He illuminates the processes of transformation into the psychic and asks how nameless states can be psychically anchored. Clinical vignettes are used throughout to illustrate the consequences for treatment, as well as interpretations of complex holding situations. This book will be of interest to analysts both in practice and in training, as well as psychotherapists and mental health practitioners wishing to understand nameless states more deeply.

The Nameless By: Chad Mooney The Nameless is a collection of four short stories. The first story, “Object Permanence,” is about a young man and his obsession with the girl who lives down the street, and the extreme lengths he will go to to be close to her. “Somewhere Between Screaming and Crying” is about a man suffering from retrograde amnesia, and details his leaving the hospital and going home to attempt to resume his life along with his loving wife, whom he does not remember and views as a stranger. “The Thirteenth Step” is about a psychopath who picks up vulnerable young women at Narcotics Anonymous meetings. “Mors Indecepta” is a retelling of an old Somerset Maugham story (“Appointment In Samarra”), about how there’s no such thing as cheating death. These stories explore the darker side of human nature, the narrator often appearing as the anti-hero or antagonist, and these dark themes are contrasted with the sometimes flowery and sunny prose used to describe moods and settings in the stories. It is Chad Mooney’s hope that the reader not only enjoys his prose, which is a point of pride, but perhaps sees through even the smallest of windows a quick glimpse of something dark and frightening about the nature of human beings that perhaps they may not have even considered before.
