A detailed set of wave, current, suspended sediment and pore water pressure measurements was made from August 18 to September 24, 1986 at 2 locations offshore of North Head on Richards Island. Because pack ice remained between 100 and 200 km offshore, 1986 was an excellent year for program and two storms with wave heights up to 2.5 m were monitored in shallow water. The objective was to measure changes in pore water pressure and near-bed suspended sediment concentrations in response to storm generated waves and near bottom currents. Ultimately data are to be used to examine liquefaction potential of surficial soils, expected sediment transport rates and mechanics of wave energy attenuation.

Along much of the shoreline of the world, tidal inlets play an important role in nearshore processes, providing links between the coastal oceans and protected embayments. Their study is of particular importance not only for the understanding of fundamental processes in coastal oceanography but also for engineering and the proper management of the delicate equilibrium of our shorelines. This volume, based on the International Symposium on Hydrodynamics and Sediment Dynamics of Tidal Inlets held at Woods Hole, MA, presents the reader with an overview of contemporary research on these important features. The coverage includes: - mathematical modelling, including a review of inlet hydrodynamics, - observations on hydrodynamics, - sedimentology and morphology, - tidal deltas, - processes and policies pertaining to sedimentation, and the - impacts of shore protection and dredging in beaches.

This volume is the product of the International Conference on Cohesive Sediment Transport (INTERCOH 2003) held at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, U.S.A., during October 1-4, 2003. The topics included in this monograph range from basic research on cohesive sediment dynamics to practical applications. Also included with this book is a database that contains all experimental results as well as a comparison of numerical simulation results supported by the COSINUS project. * Provides fundamental knowledge of the dynamics of cohesive sediments * Presents practical applications of new finds on sedimentary processes * Includes valuable ready-for-use data
