“All aboard the streamlined, Vista-Dome North Coast Limited leaving on Track 1 for Minnesota’s Lake Region, the vast prairies of North Dakota, Montana’s magnificent Rockies, Idaho’s lakes and forests, the Inland Empire of Spokane to Puget Sound country, and the great seaports of Seattle-Tacoma and Portland.” The Northern Pacific was always a progressive leader in railroading, and was the first to offer sleeping and dining car service from St. Paul to the Pacific Northwest. Covering the 30s through the '60s, this book's outstanding vintage photography highlights the North Coast Limited (the finest passenger train in North America), the faster Vista-Dome passenger trains, NP's team and diesel locomotives, and NP's Freight cars, Maintenance-of-way and Cabooses.

On February 12, 1934, Union Pacific premiered the M-10000, the first lightweight, streamlined passenger train, calling it “Tomorrow’s Train Today.” The tiny brown-and-yellow speedster offered hope and promise for America’s future during the Great Depression. Later renamed City of Salina, the train was the beginning of Union Pacific’s City Fleet of streamliners including the City of Los Angeles, City of San Francisco, City of Portland, City of Denver and Challenger, departing from Chicago and serving all the West. Union Pacific system map, timetables, travel brochures, and advertising are featured.

This book is a photographic record of railroad depots in Washington State. The photographs have been selected to illustrate variations in size, architectural style and commonality as dictated by the railroad companies. In addition the book presents for the first time a comprehensive data summary of all known depots in Washington State; size, construction date and materials used are listed. Significant changes, rebuilding and replacement are addressed. Major railroads that operated within the state—Northern Pacific, Great Northern, Union Pacific and Milwaukee Road—are included in the book along with predecessors, successors and subsidiaries. Compilation of the data from surviving records involved extensive travel and research. Data sources include state archives, historical museums, railroad museums and national archive collections. The book will doubtless be of interest to architectural, railroad and urban historians as well as railway enthusiasts. Residents of Washington State can verify if an when a depot formerly existed in their locality.

Packed with spectacular photographs and a trainman's vivid memories, Railscapes reflects the author's unbounded enthusiasm, love, and respect for the whole world of trains. Once again, Jim Fredrickson opens the shutter wide on more than six decades of American railroading, and offers an insider's insights on the business of moving men and materials via the great steel ribbons that connected the Pacific Northwest with the rest of the world. For 39 years, the author worked for the Northern Pacific Railway in Washington state as a telegraph operator--a brasspounder--and dispatcher. He had the good fortune to travel in some of the most beautiful parts of the United States, and his camera covered it all--from the Bitterroot Mountains of Montana and Idaho to the Cascade Range of Washington, to the Puget Sound coastal region. Since his teens, Fredrickson has been ready to capture by a shutter's click both ordinary workhorse engines as well as special, magnificent, vintage, or futuristic trains. Drawn from an immense collection of railroad images, Railscapes features more of Jim's favorite photographs of train wrecks, premier passenger trains, the last of the steam engines, railroad folks, and more.

This e-book contains the 2013 Revision of RDA: Resource Description and Access, and includes the July 2013 Update. This e-book offers links within the RDA text and the capability of running rudimentary searches of RDA, but please note that this e-book does not have the full range of content or functionality provided by the subscription product RDA Toolkit. Included: A full accumulation of RDA— the revision contains a full set of all current RDA instructions. It replaces the previous version of RDA Print as opposed to being an update packet to that version. RDA has gone through many changes since it was first published in 2010. Cataloging practice described by RDA has not changed dramatically due to the changes above, but nearly every page in RDA Print was impacted by the changes, with the result that an RDA Print update packet would require nearly as many pages as the full revision. The most current RDA— the revision contains all changes to RDA up to and including the 2013 RDA Update approved by the JSC. Annually the JSC considers proposals to update, enhance and maintain RDA as a current cataloging standard. These updates can and often do change the cataloging process as described by RDA. The JSC also periodically issues changes to RDA to fix errors and to clarify meaning. These changes do not typically change cataloging practice as described by RDA. Reworded RDA— the revision includes the reworded version of RDA instructions. To improve readability and comprehension of complex instructions, RDA has been edited and reworded since its original release. The rewording was carried out by the JSC, RDA Copy Editor, and reviewed by the U.S. RDA Test Coordinating Committee.
