With platinum and rhodium, palladium is one of the most important members of the platinum metal group. The last Gmelin treatment of it was in 1942, and knowledge of its properties and chemistry has made enormous strides since then. This volume is primarily concerned with binary compounds and with the coordination complexes derived from them. Although it is a member of the nickel-palladium-platinum triad, it more closely resernblas platinum in its binary and coordination chemistry, though being a second-row transition element it displays less tendency than does platinum to assume higher oxidation states. ln heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysis, referred to at appropriate points, palladium and its complexes are of great importance in bulk and fine chemieals production, effecting a wide variety of organic transformations. The arrangement of material in this volume follows the traditional Gmelin arrangement. Within each category of compounds or complexes the material is arranged, as usual, in order of ascending metal oxidation states (e. g., palladium(ll) precedes palladium(IV)). The chemistry of the palladium-hydrogen system is so large that it merits a separate volume, so this book starts with the binary oxides and oxopalladates followed by hydroxides, hydroxo complexes and aquo complexes. Then nitrides and nitrates are treated. They are followed by the large chapters on halides and their complexes (172 pages). The largest single chapter in this volume (11 0 pages) deals with chlorides, chloropalladates and other chloro complexes.

Metal Oxides for Non-volatile Memory: Materials, Technology and Applications covers the technology and applications of metal oxides (MOx) in non-volatile memory (NVM) technology. The book addresses all types of NVMs, including floating-gate memories, 3-D memories, charge-trapping memories, quantum-dot memories, resistance switching memories and memristors, Mott memories and transparent memories. Applications of MOx in DRAM technology where they play a crucial role to the DRAM evolution are also addressed. The book offers a broad scope, encompassing discussions of materials properties, deposition methods, design and fabrication, and circuit and system level applications of metal oxides to non-volatile memory. Finally, the book addresses one of the most promising materials that may lead to a solution to the challenges in chip size and capacity for memory technologies, particular for mobile applications and embedded systems. Systematically covers metal oxides materials and their properties with memory technology applications, including floating-gate memory, 3-D memory, memristors, and much more Provides an overview on the most relevant deposition methods, including sputtering, CVD, ALD and MBE Discusses the design and fabrication of metal oxides for wide breadth of non-volatile memory applications from 3-D flash technology, transparent memory and DRAM technology

The Pigment Compendium Dictionary is a comprehensive information source for scientists, art historians, conservators and forensic specialists. Drawn together from extensive analystical research into the physical and chemical properties of pigments, this essential reference to pigment names and synonyms describes the inter-relationship of different names and terms. The Dictionary covers the field worldwide from pre-history to the present day, from rock art to interior decoration, from ethnography to contemporary art. Drawing on hundreds of hard-to-obtain documentary sources as well as modern scientific data each term is discussed in detail, giving both its context and composition. * Comprehensive list of pigment names and synonyms * Pigments used worldwide from pre-history to the present day * Contains information from hundreds of hard-to-obtain documentary sources
