Parallel Convergence

When the Parallel Converge spans the author’s spiritual pilgrimage. It begins with her childhood under the care of her indomitable grandmother in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, site of the Great Flood in which ancestors died. From there, the reader shares a dark night of the soul when the author is marooned at a major airport after missing a connection from Dublin following a Celtic pilgrimage. Last, the author writes of her hospitalization and recovery from a nearly fatal infection, when she was much older, which tested her soul. Several poems on related themes also are included. The author learns lessons of life, loss, grief, faith, hope, charity, and grace, along with laughter and joy.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the Third International Conference on Vector and Parallel Processing, VECPAR'98, held in Porto, Portugal, in June 1998. The 41 revised full papers presented were carefully selected during two rounds of reviewing and revision. Also included are six invited papers and introductory chapter surveys. The papers are organized in sections on eigenvalue problems and solutions of linear systems; computational fluid dynamics, structural analysis, and mesh partitioning; computing in education; computer organization, programming and benchmarking; image analysis and synthesis; parallel database servers; and nonlinear problems.

Convergence in crossover service explores the crossover phenomenon, crossover services and the convergence issues that arise in typical crossover scenarios. Unlike traditional service integration, crossover services need to realize multidimensional convergence of pattern, design, run-time environment, quality, and value. This book creatively proposes a framework of crossover service pattern modeling, simulation, evaluation, and convergence to achieve quantitative calculation and analysis of crossover service patterns. Also, this book provides a requirements convergence modeling and analysis framework to support crossover services requirements analysis and design. In the meantime, authors develop a new crossover service network architecture to achieve efficient governance of large-scale crossover services and construct an evaluation and optimization system for service quality and value. In the case of the rural Taobao scenario, the theory and engineering methods presented in this book can provide better solutions for crossover convergence. This book is of great interest to researchers and academics wishing to see what crossover services are, how they are implemented, and what benefits they bring.

This book constitutes the refereed conference proceedings of the 26th International Colloquium on Structural Information and Communication Complexity, SIROCCO 2019, held in L’Aquila, Italy, in July 2019. There are many different types of convergence within economics, as well as several methods to analyse each of them. This book addresses the concept of real economic convergence or the gradual levelling-off of GDP (gross domestic product) per capita rates across economies. In addition to a detailed, holistic overview of the history and theory, the authors include a description of two modern methods of assessing the occurrence and rate of convergence, BMA-based and HMM-based, as well as the results of the empirical analysis. Readers will have access not only to the conventional econometric approach of β convergence but also to an alternative one, allowing for the convergence issue to be expressed in the context of automatic pattern recognition. This approach is universal as it can be adapted to a variety of input data. The lowest aggregation level study investigates regional convergence through the case of Polish voivodships, where convergence towards the leader is tested. On a higher level of aggregation, the authors examine the existence of GDP convergence in such groups as the EU28, North Africa and the Middle East, sub-Saharan Africa, South America, Caribbean, South-East Asia, Australia and Oceania, or post-socialist countries. For each group, the real β convergence is tested using the two above-mentioned approaches. The results are widely discussed, broadly illustrated, interpreted, and compared. The analysis allows readers to draw interesting conclusions about the causes of convergence or the drivers behind divergence. The book will stimulate further research in the field, but the research was conducted from the point of view of individual countries.
