“Anyone grappling with the bewilderment of midlife…will be at once provoked and comforted by this enormously wise book” (Dani Shapiro, New York Times bestselling author of Hourglass: Time, Memory, Marriage), from a psychologist who has worked for decades with people struggling to preserve and enhance their marriages and long-term relationships. People today are trying to make their marriages work over longer lives than ever before. But staying married isn’t always easy. In the brilliant, transformative, and optimistic The Rough Patch, clinical psychologist Daphne de Marneffe explores the extraordinary pushes and pulls of midlife marriage, where our need to develop as individuals can crash headlong into the demands of our relationships. “A book of good intentions and helpful advice and a worthy manual for spouses” (Kirkus Reviews), The Rough Patch addresses common problems: money, alcohol and drugs, the stresses of parenthood, sex, extramarital affairs, lovesickness, health, aging, children leaving home, and dealing with elderly parents. Then, de Marneffe offers seasoned wisdom on these difficulties, explaining the psychological, emotional, and relational capacities we must cultivate to overcome them as individuals and as couples. Blending research, interviews, and clinical experience, de Marneffe dives deep into the workings of love and the structures of relationships. Intimate and always illuminating, The Rough Patch is an essential, compassionate resource for people trying to understand “where they are” on the continuum of marriage, giving them a chance to share in other people’s stories and struggles. “De Marneffe writes with poetry, wit, and compassion about the necessity of struggle in the quest for true love. Anyone in any relationship at any stage of life could stand to learn from the wisdom in these pages” (Andrew Solomon, National Book Award-winning author of Far from the Tree).

The inspiring and hilarious story of Patch Adams's quest to bring free health care to the world and to transform the way doctors practice medicine • Tells the story of Patch Adam's lifetime quest to transform the health care system • Released as a film from Universal Pictures, starring Robin Williams Meet Patch Adams, M.D., a social revolutionary who has devoted his career to giving away health care. Adams is the founder of the Gesundheit Institute, a home-based medical practice that has treated more than 15,000 people for free, and that is now building a full-scale hospital that will be open to anyone in the world free of charge. Ambitious? Yes. Impossible? Not for those who know and work with Patch. Whether it means putting on a red clown nose for sick children or taking a disturbed patient outside to roll down a hill with him, Adams does whatever is necessary to help heal. In his frequent lectures at medical schools and international conferences, Adams's irrepressible energy cuts through the businesslike facade of the medical industry to address the caring relationship between doctor and patient that is at the heart of true medicine. All author royalties are used to fund The Gesundheit Institute, a 40-bed free hospital in West Virginia. Adams's positive vision and plan for the future is an inspiration for those concerned with the inaccessibility of affordable, quality health care. Today's high-tech medicine has become too costly, impersonal, and grim. In his frequent lectures to colleges, churches, community groups, medical schools, and conferences, Patch shows how healing can be a loving, creative, humorous human exchange--not a business transaction.

There are two methods given in this book and they will help you to achieve these goals (1) the first method is to control your physical and thinking karma and (2) the second method is a copyright (by me) and it will guide you to transform your thoughts from physical-thoughts to non-physical-thoughts (divine/higher-power/God). I did this in 6-9 months. You do it once and then maintain it. When you transform your thoughts then you throw away your thoughts such that all your thoughts, happy, sad and negative thoughts are thrown away. This way all your thinking goes away. Your mind does not go blank but you replace your mind with non-physical thoughts. Once you have accomplished this then you have new thinking without your baggage. You will forget your past. At this level, your karma will improve and go positive, and as this happens, your horrible night dreams will become positive. At time moves forward, your body pains will slowly go away. If you get hurt in sports then you will heal faster. This is a very powerful method. As time passes, you may be able to establish communication with divine/higher-power/God and you may begin to receive bells and whistles at some point. If this happens then you will be an extremely happy person.

There are times when some things must be done by the pastor. Why? Because there is no one else to do them. Dr. Lawrence Hudson, an eager, young pastor, gladly bears this responsibility as he embarks on his first duties at the Church of the Redeemer in the small town of Roy, Tennessee. The year is 1947, and this is the first church appointment for this bright, dedicated man of God. With grand ambitions and a deep desire to please the Lord, Dr. Hudson is attentive to the needs of his parishioners, no matter the place or the hour, and seems to have sermons ready at the drop of a hat. He soon becomes famous for his front porch sermons and fireside sermons, which he gives to those who stop by his home for counsel and spiritual advice. Although he quickly proves himself to be wise beyond his years, Dr. Hudson still has many lessons to learn as he sets about tending his new flock. Perhaps even more difficult, he, like all humans, must face his own failures and mistakes. For he has a ghost in his past which is not easily forgotten-a lost love which he may never recover. Wrestling with his own heartache, loneliness, and regret, he focuses on the needs of others in order to fill the void in his own life. Only his closest friend and housekeeper, Mrs. Ward, knows of his inner struggle-one, it seems, only God can heal. My Patch of Heaven is a story of hope, faithfulness, and triumph as a pastor and his flock ever reach for that higher calling.

The creator of the Unmistakable Creative podcast makes a counterintuitive argument: By focusing your creative work on pleasing yourself, you can increase your productivity, happiness, and (eventually, paradoxically) the size of your audience. Creating for your own pleasure--whether you're writing a novel, composing songs, or painting a landscape--can seem pointless. It's tempting to focus on pursuing money and fame, rather than the process itself. But as Srini Rao warns, creating then turns into a chore that can harm your self-esteem and suck the pleasure out of life, rather than being a source of joy. Rao, host of the podcast The Unmistakable Creative, argues that we should counter this thinking by intentionally creating art for ourselves alone--an audience of one. In this book he shares the fascinating true stories of creatives who took this path, along with actionable tips and the research of creativity experts. You'll learn, for example: • How Oprah's intentional focus on her own work rather than the opinions of everyone else catapulted her into one of the most popular talk shows of all time. • How being process-driven can not only help you produce more work, but can make you happier outside of your creative time. • How to put together a creative "team of rivals" whose feedback can help you hone your craft and filter out useless feedback. By playing to an audience of one, we can find more happiness, increased productivity, and a greater sense of community.
