The book entitled “Pedagogy-Driven Technology Integration in English Language Teaching” discusses pedagogical soundness and appropriateness of technology to address problems or issues in the teaching and learning process, especially in the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning context. It is a relatively new genre, similar to a book review section, in academic journals and magazines. With technology's rapid and disruptive development, teaching and learning in the EFL context may not be the same anymore. Numerous tools, prominently digital ones, have been massively utilized within and beyond the classroom walls. Yet, one thing remains the same, the pedagogical aspects comprising clear and scaffolded learning stages incorporated with technologies must present insights and bring about benefits to the instruction.

Since the turn of the century, emerging technologies, along with their use in educational contexts, have seen a number of radical changes occur within the learner landscape, and these have impacted both teachers and students. This has seen changes in the way that learners engage with content and interact with instructors. Technological advancement has been rapid, and its impact on teaching and learning is ever-constant. This has led to a need for educators to continually assess and consider the implication that new and emerging technologies hold for their teaching contexts, their professional development, and the skills possessed and required by their students. It is here that the value of this book becomes apparent, as practitioners will be able to walk away with a greater understanding of how to best employ various aspects of technology-driven learning, instruction, and assessment techniques when teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) from a variety of pedagogical contexts.In this book, the use of more 'traditional' software tools and classroom staples are reexamined for educational advantage in the digital era and for use with 21st century learners. Specifically covered topics are: making meaning from experience with digital storytelling, development of interactive multimedia-based presentations with Prezi, and means of supporting and supplementing instruction with podcasts and screencasts. This book is intended to be read in whole or in part by teachers, students, parents, and any other stakeholders who may be interested in the topics.

This book presents a critical analysis and investigation of current developments and debates in the use of information technology (IT) in English language teaching (ELT) internationally. The first section of the book provides an overview of the key issues in IT and innovation in English language education such as the complex nature of IT and its use in ELT, both in the present and future, and the often problematic nature of innovation in relation to IT and ELT. It focuses primarily on the level of programs and curricula, looking at the way organizations and educational systems in different countries respond to the so-called “IT imperative.” The second section adopts a more overtly social constructivist perspective to explore examples of innovative practice in IT use in ELT around the world. It tackles issues arising from classroom implementation and pedagogy, looking at the way learners and teachers can and do use IT in their everyday practice. The final section investigates the problems of building a community of professional practice in IT in English language education. It focuses on the level of professional development and teacher education and in doing so, demonstrates how the implementation of IT in schools and classrooms can be enhanced through taking into account key aspects of teachers’ existing contexts and professional practices. Throughout the book, the contributors adopt a constructive but critical perspective on the use of IT in English language education, often challenging its role in developing learner autonomy, its effectiveness in developing language learning and its capacity to enhance pedagogic practice in the language teaching classroom, at the same time suggesting effective models and guidelines for good practice.
