Pilot 101 is for anyone who is interested in aviation and being a pilot, whether simply for personal recreation and travel, or as a career. The book is organized in approximately the same sequence a person would follow, from thinking about being a pilot, to the training and experience required for most aviation careers, including airlines and military aviation. Learn how do determine if flying, either as a hobby or a career is right for you. If you decide you are interested in being a pilot, it will provide you with key steps to prepare for flight training and set your personal aviation goals. Topics covered include how to decide what kind of pilot you want to be, and then the initial steps for your path into aviation, including what you will have to learn, how your training will progress, and help you set goals. Training requirements for each phase of flight training are summarized, including FAA test requirements. There is a section that spells out the privileges of and requirements for different pilot certificates, from being a Sport pilot to an airline or military pilot. Even different types of aircraft are covered including helicopters and gliders. Training programs are described, from initial training at a local airport to attending a flight academy or university aviation program that will take you from “the ground up,” from first flight to qualification as a professional pilot and set you on the way to your ultimate aviation goals. About the Expert Mr. Richmond has been involved in aviation in one way or another for more than 40 years. He received his initial flight training in the U. S. Air Force. Mr. Richmond also built and flew his own Experimental airplane. He continues to write about aviation, aircraft, and piloting. Several of his flying stories can be found on his blog, Renaissance Musings under the category, “There I Was.” HowExpert publishes quick 'how to' guides on all topics from A to Z by everyday experts.

This edited book on Faculty Learning Communities (FLCs) explores the ways in which FLCs have expanded across platforms, spaces, and focus while maintaining the core values and elements of original FLCs. The first section investigates ways that FLCs support faculty retention, teaching, and scholarship. The second section offers examples of FLCs focused on teaching that is responsive to student learning. The third section explores the move to online and virtual FLCs. The fourth section explores FLCs that create and foster faculty belonging, communities of care, and the integration of mindfulness. The fifth section looks at multi-year, long-term progression and impact of FLCs. The book’s foreword, by Milton D. Cox, investigates the evolution of leadership of and within faculty learning communities as they expand.

A sobering and necessary read for all those interested in Cold War history. Much has been written about the V-bombers – the Valiant, Victor and Vulcan – but virtually nothing has been said about their strategic nuclear strike role. How would Britain’s small force of subsonic bombers have retaliated following a Soviet attack? Would they have succeeded in visiting thermonuclear catastrophe on their Soviet targets? V-Bombers: Britain’s Nuclear Frontline is the first detailed account of the operational capability and credibility of Britain’s airborne nuclear deterrent during the peak years of the Cold War. This book is the product of six years of research by the author, Dr Tony Redding. It includes a great deal of fresh material on V-force weapons, war mission, targeting, vulnerabilities and tactics for attacking targets within Soviet Russia. Over 70 V-force aircrew and ground crew were interviewed and over 300 operational research reports and other official documents were reviewed. This book demonstrates how the V-bombers retained a unilateral capacity to destroy the largest cities in the Soviet Union until the handover of the strategic nuclear deterrent to the Polaris submarines in 1969. It concludes that a small force of surviving V-bombers could have unleashed the explosive power of all Allied bombs dropped on Germany in six years of war, but in the space of the first two hours of World War 3. A sobering thought and a fascinating and necessary read for all those interested in this period of history.
