Vietnam Gray lead and shiny yellow brass Pushing death From a stainless steel gun Thats not made of flesh: Its integral parts lubricated By oil and grease To withstand the heat and humidity, But what is there to erase The red stain On white cloth that covers The pain On a moving part of anatomy Or the look on a human face?

One Christmas night, as snowflakes gently cover everything in sight, four squirrels busily prepare for the holiday in their little house beneath a forest tree. As they make cookies out of acorns, trees, and leaves, a tiny mouse hides, afraid that he will sneeze. If the squirrels find him, they will surely send him out into the snow! With his little fingers, the mouse holds onto his nose and prays. But his urge to sneeze is too strong, and soon the squirrels find him next to a wooden shoe. Horrified, the mouse hides his eyes, fearing the worst. But it is what happens next that surprises the little mouse the most. A Christmas poem first recorded in 1952 by Jack DiNola for his two children, Two Squirrels and a Mouse, shares a timeless tale of compassion and acceptance as a squirrel family and a lonely mouse discover an unlikely friendship the night before Christmas.

'Truly a marvellous collection ... There is balm for the soul, fire for the belly, a cooling compress for the fevered brow, solace for the wounded, an arm around the lonely shoulder - the whole collection is a matchless compound of hug, tonic and kiss' Stephen Fry As heard on BBC Radio 4, the essential prescriptions from William Sieghart's poetic dispensary Sometimes only a poem will do. These poetic prescriptions and wise words of advice offer comfort, delight and inspiration for all; a space for reflection, and a chance to realize - I'm not the only one who feels like this. In the years since he first had the idea of prescribing short, powerful poems for all manner of spiritual ailments, William Sieghart has taken his Poetry Pharmacy around the length and breadth of Britain, into the pages of the Guardian, onto BBC Radio 4 and onto the television, honing his prescriptions all the time. This pocket-sized book presents the most essential poems in his dispensary: those which, again and again, have really shown themselves to work. Whether you are suffering from loneliness, lack of courage, heartbreak, hopelessness, or even from an excess of ego, there is something here to ease your pain. 'The book is delightful; it rightly resituates poetryin relation to its biggest and most serious task: helping us to live and diewell' Alain de Botton

It is a contemporary poetry collection with little respect to classical forms - but not as chaotic as some other modern poetry. The topics range from hopes and dreams over coffee and chickens to other people's expectations. There are also some poems that are heavily influenced by New Zealand and Maori.

Henry Disney was born in 1938 and was separated from his parents for part of the War; while his future wife had to be dug from the remains of her home following a bombing raid. After the War he was partly brought up in the Sudan, he served on active service in Cyprus during his National service in 1958, and he carried out research on parasites, their hosts and insect vectors in Belize and Cameroon, as well as taking part in a 3-month entomological expedition to Indonesia. His experience has convinced him that it is folly for the West to intervene in conflicts in the Moslem world, not the least because it leads to a surge of recruitment to the most extreme Jihad movements. His experience has also served to reinforce his Christian commitment to the rejection of war as a means of solving political conflicts. Since 1984 he has been a senior researcher at the University of Cambridge. He has been author or co-author of more than 600 scientific publications, with his co-authors being from more than 50 countries across the world. He has previously published nine collections of poetry. This tenth collection is unashamedly more political than these previous nine. Book reviews online: PublishedBestsellers website.

"Sherpatude no. 26: 'Humor is a combat multiplier ...' Has your war become workaday? Does life on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) now seem commonplace? Armed with deadpan snark and poker-faced patriotism -- and rooted in the coffee-black soil and plain-spoken voice of the American Midwest -- journalist-turned-poet Randy Brown reveals behind-the-scenes stories of U.S. soldier-citizenship. From Boot Camp to Bagram, Afghanistan. And back home again." --
