Poetic Inspirations

This book is written to serve as a source of religious inspiration to those who often seek to find comfort, encouragement, and personal inspiration from the holy scriptures. The premise of the book is to take various verses of scripture from the Bible and convert a particular verse into a poetic expression that both unlocks its meaning while highlighting the inspirational message contained in the verse. The poems touch on a variety of subjects; they provide inspiration to pursue dreams and encourage perseverance through life’s trials and motivation to keep abiding in the foundational principles of one’s faith.

Poetic Inspiration Peace, Wisdom, and Treasure Poetic Inspiration Peace, Wisdom, and Treasure is dedicated to Bishop Calvin Davis, Sr. and Bishop Leslie Edwards, whose words will always remain inspirational. Their manner of life had a profound effect on many people and several members of Pentecostal Way of Truth wanted to share some of the treasures that was given to them. Both mens words of wisdom had a way of springing beyond troubles and instilled a sense of peace that became our inspiration in our everyday life. As a way to show others how they inspired us, we created a poetry book as a fundraiser to keep their vision alive. Their vision was to expand our organization in our community. They were creating a place where people from all walks of life could be educated, while having the freedom to express their culture through dance, arts, and language.

Poetry. African American Studies. These poems speak to us with voices borrowed from the pages of novels of Alice Walker, Jean Toomer, and Toni Morrison--voices that still have more to say, things to discuss. Each struggles beneath a yoke of dreaming, loving, and suffering. These characters converse not just with the reader but also with each other, talking amongst themselves, offering up their secrets and hard-won words of wisdom, an everlasting conversation through which these poems voice a shared human experience.
