Post Pandemic L2 Pedagogy

The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has created challenges and opportunities for both teachers and students. In many countries, online teaching was something new, never experienced before. Therefore, everyone had to start from scratch. The articles in this proceeding provide the experiences, challenges, and strategies that L2 teachers and students had during the recent emergency remote teaching. Four main themes were covered: 1) online L2 learning curriculum and materials development, 2) L2 learning and acquisition in a virtual learning environment, 3) online L2 testing, assessment, program evaluation, and 4) teacher and students’ critical reflections on online L2 teaching and learning practices. Written by L2 teachers and teacher educators, we dedicate this proceeding to all L2 teachers and teacher educators who continue trying to maintain high-quality L2 education during and post-pandemic.

Post-Pandemic Pedagogy: A Paradigm Shift discusses how the COVID-19 pandemic radically altered teaching and learning for faculty and students alike. The increased prevalence of video-conferencing software for conducting classes fundamentally changed the way in which we teach and seemingly upended many best practices for good pedagogy in the college classroom. Whether it was the reflection over surveillance software, or the increased mental health demands of the pandemic on teachers and students, or the completely reshaped ways in which classes and co-curricular experiences were delivered, the pandemic year represented an opportunity for one of the largest shifts in our understanding of good pedagogy unlike any experienced in the modern era. This edited collection explores what we thought we knew about a variety of teaching ideas, how the pandemic changed our approach to them, and proposes ways in which some of the adjustments made to accommodate the pandemic will remain for years to come. Scholars of communication, pedagogy, and education will find this book particularly interesting.

This handbook showcases extraordinary educational responses in exceptional times. The scholarly text discusses valuable innovations for teaching and learning in times of COVID-19 and beyond. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced companies, institutions, citizens, and students to rapidly change their behaviors and use virtual technologies to perform their usual working tasks. Though virtual technologies for learning were already present in most universities, the pandemic has forced virtual technologies to lead the way in order to continue teaching and learning for students and faculty around the world. Universities and teachers had to quickly adjust everything from their curriculum to their teaching styles in order to adapt to an online learning environment. Online learning is a complex issue and one that comes with both challenges and opportunities; there is plenty of room for growth, and further study is required to better understand how to improve online education. The Handbook of Research on Developing a Post-Pandemic Paradigm for Virtual Technologies in Higher Education is a comprehensive reference book that presents the testimonials of teachers and students with various degrees of experience with distance learning and their utilization of current virtual tools and applications for learning, as well as the impact of these technologies and their potential future use. The Proceedings of Batusangkar International Conference VI (BIC VI), that was organized by Graduate Program of IAIN Batusangkar, was held in hybrid platform on 11-12 October 2021 with the main theme " Strengthening Life Harmony in 4.0 Era". The BIC VI conference includes several interesting topics such as Science, Technology Literacy, Engineering, Law, Economy, Education, and Religion. The participants came from various universities and practitioners with a total of 140 papers that were published in a proceedings. It is expected that this proceedings will bring contribution and insight, resulting in new knowledge, inspirations, and collaborations. We are very grateful for their participation. With the purpose of exploring the critical possibilities offered by the global crisis of coronavirus pandemic, this volume presents the collected works of scholars, educators and practitioners worldwide, bringing to the readers a broad array of perspectives on how COVID-19 inspires us to rethink, redefine, and make sense of the theoretical and pedagogical approaches that can be applied in various educational contexts.
