First published in 1944, Nationality in History and Politics unpacks the vagueness of terms such as nationality, national consciousness, national character, national will, national self-determination, etc. The phenomena underlying these terms are exceedingly complex, and writers frequently shift the sense according to the interest defended. National consciousness comprises a number of different aspirations which, however, can be summed up as a striving for national personality. The book investigates in detail the correlations between those aspirations and such factors as race, language, religion, territory and State, and examines in particular the social background of modern nationalism. The chapters give the sociology of national sentiment and national traditions, usually called national character, against a wide historical background. The latter part of the book treats the evolution of ideas on nationality and on supranational aims from the Middle Ages to our own time, and the influence of the doctrines of great thinkers on the national ideology of the principal nations. This book will be of interest to students of history, political science, sociology and psychology.

In The Psychology of Global Citizenship: A Review of Theory and Research, Stephen Reysen and Iva Katzarska-Miller provide a theoretical and empirical overview of global citizenship and related concepts. The authors highlight core components shared by a variety of disciplines and cultures and linked to pro-social values, such as the promotion of empathy, diversity, environmental sustainability, and intergroup helping. Utilizing a social psychological perspective, Reysen and Katzarska-Miller provide an integrated approach to global citizenship identification with their model of antecedents (global awareness and normative environment) and outcomes (six clusters of pro-social values).

Excerpt from The Psychology of Nationality and Internationalism Tms book was suggested by contact that I had witlr the American Greeks returned to Greece to fight in the Balkan War. That raised for me a number of problems which I have tried to answer and in part have answered to my own satisfaction. On the more theoretical sides much has been suggested by the writings of Graham Wallas and his school. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
