This book addresses key issues in perinatal mental health and discusses the different types of psychiatric care that may be appropriate for pregnant women, parents and infants, with emphasis on the need for joint care. The wide range of preventive measures, mainly applicable in primary care and the various potential curative interventions are examined in detail, with coverage of ambulatory care, day care and the role of mother and baby units. The importance of working in networks and joint decision-making strategies is explained. In addition, an overview of maternal perinatal psychopathology is provided and other relevant aspects are fully discussed, including the establishment of parent–infant interactions and the impacts of parental psychiatric illness on parenting skills and infant development. This first book of a two-volume series describes current research and state of the art clinical practice the shed light on the developmental origins of psychopathology in the first year of life, i.e. approximately up to the emergence of secondary intersubjectivity and/or walking. The second volume explores the interactional underpinnings of psychopathology in toddlerhood, from the time of voluntarily gross motor functioning to the emergence and basic organization of symbolic language at 24-30 months. A comprehensive approach is adopted, focusing on the fundamentally interactive nature of early development and examining interactions both with caregivers and more broadly with the socio-cultural environment. Cet ouvrage est le sommaire d'une journée d'étude sur la psychopathologie périnatale. Il s'agit de la première journée de ce type à l'université Paris VII-Denis-Diderot. En pleine expansion, ce champ de connaissance est tout à fait neuf et se constitue à un carrefour entre les travaux explorant la psychopathologie précoce du nourrisson et ceux décrivant la psychopathologie maternelle, Les débuts de la vie mentale de l'enfant et son mystère sont déjà l'objet de nombreuses publications résultant d'une interdisciplinarité entre pédopsychiatres, chercheurs et psychanalystes. Par contre la psychopathologie maternelle a encore fait l'objet de peu d'études systématisées. Aussi la lecture de cet ouvrage devrait stimuler la pensée et les recherches sur la continuité psychique entre les périodes pré et postnatales et apporter des documents à la question controversée de la transmission intergénérationnelle.

Le terme “Service” a orienté les travaux de recherche et de formation lors du XIIIème Congrès de l'Association Internationale de Formation et de Recherche en Education Familiale (AIFREF). Il s'agissait, en l'occurrence, de se mettre au service de la petite enfance. L'acte qui consiste à se consacrer au service d'un être qui chemine sur la voie de l'autonomie a pris une consistance et une importance sans cesse croissantes au cours du développement de la modernité. Aujourd'hui, celle-ci connaît une profonde mutation : entrant dans la postmodernité, nous constatons que la notion de service prend un tout autre sens. Pour mieux être au service de l'enfance, il s'agit maintenant de savoir ce qui peut lui être utile. Qu'est-ce qui permet à l'enfant de grandir et de s'émanciper?
