The chaplain of the expedition was Fray Pedro Font, who accompanied Anza from San Miguel de Horcasitas to San Francisco Bay and back, a journey which occupied from September 29, 1775, to June 1, 1776. The authorities for the incidents of the expedition consist of the diaries of Anza and Font, supplemented, at the beginning, by that of Fray Francisco Garces.
