Recommendations Of The Committee For Waterfront Structures Harbours And Waterways Eau 2004

Since 1949 the "Committee for Waterfront Structures" has operated on honorary base as a committee of the Society for Harbour Engineering (HTG), Hamburg, and since 1951 also as working group of the German Society for Geotechnics (DGGT), Essen. Its full designation reads "Committee for Simplification an Standardization of Calculation and Construction of Waterfront Structures", which also outlines its goals. Following on from the previous joint publications, this new edition of EAU 2004 contains the safety concept with partial safety factors in accordance with the Eurocodes or the European prestandards as well as with the new edition of the corresponding German standard, partially differing on account of practice experiences. The recommendations continue to satisfy the requirements for international acknowledgement and application with regard to planning, design tendering, the awarding of contracts, building and building supervision. Further, the inspection and accounting procedures for harbour and waterway constructions are given from uniform points of view.

The methods and equipment technology employed in the deep foundation industry have improved rapidly in recent years. The ingenuity of civil engineers, the results of new scientific research and the ongoing and new developments in machine technology have all led to the acceleration of this process. Applying technologies that have become very complex, and selecting the suitable machinery and equipment, demand ever more specialized knowledge and practical experience. It has become very difficult for users and manufacturers of special deep foundation machinery to maintain an overview of the level of technology in the sector. Both volumes provide a comprehensive overview of the special deep foundation applications, equipment and processes. They are intended as an aid to planning and implementation, and aim to help practitioners, public authorities, engineering companies and students to broaden and complete their level of knowledge. They are targeted primarily at occupational engineers and applications in the field. The individual chapters discuss manufacturing techniques and potential applications, along with the associated machine components. The specifics of each method and machine technology are examined in detail. Since the first volume of the compendium on Special Deep Foundation was published in March 2008, it has become a standard reference book.

The "EAU 2012" takes into account the new generation of standards, which is shortly to be introduced into the building control system; it consists of Eurocode 7, the associated national application documents and additional national regulations (DIN 1054:2010). In certain cases, partial safety factors are determined differently based on experience in practice. This means that the safety standard of sea and port buildings remains in place; the recommendations nevertheless satisfy the requirements for international recognition and application regarding the planning, design, specification, tender procedure, construction and monitoring, as well as the handover of - and cost accounting for - port and waterway systems under uniform criteria.

The wind energy industry in Germany has an excellent global standing when it comes to the development and construction of wind turbines. Germany currently represents the world's largest market for wind energy. The ongoing development of ever more powerful wind turbines plus additional requirements for the design and construction of their offshore foundation structures exceeds the actual experiences gained so far in the various disciplines concerned. This book gives a comprehensive overview for planning and structural design analysis of reinforced concrete and pre-stressed concrete wind turbine towers for both, onshore and offshore wind turbines. Wind turbines represent structures subjected to highly dynamic loading patterns. Therefore, for the design of loadbearing structures, fatigue effects - and not just maximum loads - are extremely important, in particular in the connections and joints of concrete and hybrid structures. There multi-axial stress conditions occure which so far are not covered by the design codes. The specific actions, the nonlinear behaviour and modeling for the structural analysis are explained. Design and verification with a focus on fatigue are adressed. The chapter Manufacturing includes hybrid structures, segmental construction of pre-stressed concrete towers and offshore wind turbine foundations. Selected chapters from the German concrete yearbook are now being published in the new English "Beton-Kalender Series" for the benefit of an international audience. Since it was founded in 1906, the Ernst & Sohn "Beton-Kalender" has been supporting developments in reinforced and prestressed concrete. The aim was to publish a yearbook to reflect progress in "ferro-concrete" structures until - as the book's first editor, Fritz von Emperger (1862-1942), expressed it - the "tempestuous development" in this form of construction came to an end. However, the "Beton-Kalender" quickly became the chosen work of reference for civil and structural engineers, and apart from the years 1945-1950 has been published annually ever since.

Seaport Container Terminals (SCT) operate as central nodes in worldwide hub-and-spoke networks, and link ocean-going vessels with smaller feeder vessels, as well as with inbound and outbound hinterland transportation systems using road, rail, or inland waterways. The volume of transcontinental container flows has gained enormously over the last five decades frequently leading to double-digit annual growth rates for the SCT. The 2nd edition of the Handbook of Terminal Planning also deals with problems being induced by questions of terminal development on a long-term basis (strategic level). Facing present and upcoming challenges for SCT operation—such as more and more mega vessels, extremely high hinterland peaks, higher environmental standards, less public acceptance and the stronger competition between terminals serving the same hinterland—the focus of the book is on successful approaches and solutions primarily addressing the planning of terminal structures. Nevertheless, operational aspects are considered, as well as how they effectively contribute to problem solving on the strategic level.
