The first and only book about the tiny red phenomenon Red's Eats, where loyal patrons will wait for an hour or more for a rich, succulent lobster roll. Debbie Cronk, whose family has owned Red's Eats for more than 30 years, shared stories and memorabilia for the book. Red's has legions of fans across the U.S. because 90% of Maine tourists pass by this iconic lobster shack beside Route one in Wiscasset. As the Frommer's review points out, this Maine roadside eatery has received more than its fair share of national ink and TV attention. Added to that are the huge number of internet postings that continue spreading the word about Red's, many of them echoing the opinions of CNN/Money's review: Red's is not fancy, just perfect.

Organized baseball has survived its share of difficult times, and never was the state of the game more imperiled than during the Great Depression. Or was it? Remarkably, during the economic upheavals of the Depression none of the sixteen Major League Baseball teams folded or moved. In this economist's look at the sport as a business between 1929 and 1941, David George Surdam argues that although it was a very tough decade for baseball, the downturn didn't happen immediately. The 1930 season, after the stock market crash, had record attendance. But by 1931 attendance began to fall rapidly, plummeting 40 percent by 1933. To adjust, teams reduced expenses by cutting coaches and hiring player-managers. While even the best players, such as Babe Ruth, were forced to take pay cuts, most players continued to earn the same pay in terms of purchasing power. Baseball remained a great way to make a living. Revenue sharing helped the teams in small markets but not necessarily at the expense of big-city teams. Off the field, owners devised innovative solutions to keep the game afloat, including the development of the Minor League farm system, night baseball, and the first radio broadcasts to diversify teams' income sources. Using research from primary documents, Surdam analyzes how the economic structure and operations side of Major League Baseball during the Depression took a beating but managed to endure, albeit changed by the societal forces of its time.

This book aims to show how programming will be changed by the concepts of parallel systems and how these concepts relate to the ideas of functions and objects. To demonstrate the kind of programming that can be done on these systems, the research language Balinda K is used. The book will also enhance the reader's grasp of the concepts of concurrency and modular programming, reviewing these from the perspectives of application programming in a parallel language. The book should interest graduate and senior undergraduate students of computer science and computer engineering, and IT professionals working in a multiprocesing or distributed computing environment.

What remains of the colours of our childhood? What are our memories of a blue rabbit, a red dress, a yellow bike – and were they really those colours? What colours do we associate with our student years, our first loves, our adult lives? How does colour leave its mark on memory? In an attempt to answer these and other questions, Michel Pastoureau presents us with a journal about colours that covers half a century. Drawing on personal recollections, he retraces the recent history of colours through an exploration of fashion and clothing, everyday objects and practices, emblems and flags, sport, literature, museums and art. This text – playful, poetic, nostalgic – records the life of both the author and his contemporaries. We live in a world increasingly bursting with colour, in which colour remains a focus for memory, a source of delight and, most of all, an invitation to dream.
