A provocative and timely call to action for civic-minded Canadians yearning for a more competitive political system ane better government. Canadians everywhere are asking: what's wrong with the Conservative Party? The Liberal Party of Canada has held power for 70 of the past 100 years--a feat unrivaled by any other political party in the Western hemisphere. This dominance has caused a great deal of frustration on all political fronts, especially on the right. In the past two years, the long-awaited merger of the Canadian Alliance and the Progressive Conservatives has not achieved the results many were expecting. Despite the explosive revelations of the sponsorship scandal, and attempts to improve his party's image, Stephen Harper's Conservatives still trail in the polls. In Rescuing Canada's Right, the authors examine the problems facing the Conservative Party and the broader conservative movement, and offer concrete solutions on how to fix them. Some of the issues the book will address: Why the Conservative Party and its predecessor parties have such a poor electoral record; Why today's Conservative Party is not really conservative. Why a new political vision is necessary to inspire Canadians--and what it should be. How the Liberals use public money to entrench an unhealthy reliance on the state--and how the right has failed to challenge it What Canadian conservatives can learn from the American and British experiences How to build a Canadian Conservative counter-culture in the media, academia, and the law How the right can break through to the young, and to immigrants in Quebec An action plan to end Canada's democratic deficit and level the political playing field. Rescuing Canada's Right will be a hard-hitting and groundbreaking work that will introduce new ideas and a passionate call for change for 21st century Canada.

In 2009, Canada's Public Policy Forum launched the Public Engagement Project to explore new ways of thinking about how governments, stakeholders, communities and ordinary citizens can work together--collaborate--to find and implement solutions to complex problems, such as climate change, poor public health or the failure to innovate. The project involved seven provincial/territorial governments-- British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Nunavut--the Canada School of Public Service, the City of Hamilton and the Government of Australia. It established an online dialogue with more than 500 officials from participating governments, and held some 30 workshops across Canada and in Australia. In addition, the project drew on several innovative projects, three of which are discussed at length in this book: the Canadian Sport Policy Renewal Process, Australia's Community Engagement Project and New Brunswick's Poverty Reduction Initiative. This book is the final report of the Public Engagement Project.

Since the two Hague (Netherlands) multilateral peace conferences of 1899 and 1907, the fundamental issue of world peace and its long-term realization has engaged scholars, diplomats, statesmen, and students of international relations. This book presents a new endeavor in this direction through a collection of papers selected from the recent conferences of the Canadian Peace Research Association and independent scholars. Descriptive, analytical, constructive and balanced ideas and solutions in this text represent alternatives for the global community to be collectively secure and peaceful. This volume examines world peace in its foundational, descriptive, conceptual, and prescriptive aspects, and as a social and human concept in positive and negative contexts, including: the nonviolent perspective of peace; women theorists on peace and war; empowerment of women as peacemakers; and, peace research and education under siege. On violence and war, the topics included are the theory of violence, the new faces of war, including military robots, electromagnetic and information weapons, the cyber warfare and the militarization of neuroscience. In the area of case studies, Iran and nuclear deterrence, the Baha’i faith and Iran; the Western Sahara, Sudan and South Sudan, and the challenges of a Palestinian Nation are analysed. In addition, there is focus on the need to establish a Department of Peace in Canada and an attempt to seek establishment of world peace through direct democracy. This book will advance an understanding of the historic struggle and failures, as well as the accomplishments and shortcomings for peaceful change and a just world order. It will be of direct interest to students of political science, diplomacy, history, social science, international law, human rights, and other cognate disciplines.

"The Art of UPWARD Methodology" is a reaction to the insanity that has taken over the dog-world. "The Art of UPWARD Methodology" clears our minds, allowing us to see our urban world through the eyes of rescued dogs. Billie Groom shares her knowledge, acquired through hands-on experience working and volunteering with dogs, rescuers, fosters and adopters spanning over three decades, to change our perspective, and increase our understanding, of dogs over the age of six months. We learn why the inherent limitations of positive training and the perceived need for dominance and alpha status has created a society saturated with gimmicks, void of logic, and struggling to meet the needs of rescued dogs. The journey we take while reading this book introduces us to the fundamentals of UPWARD Methodology, an approach to working with dogs that has changed the lives of thousands of rescued and adopted dogs and the people who are so desperately trying to help them. The challenges faced as the rescue-world explodes on a global level has been met with increased conformity and rules, stifling our ability to address the individual needs of dogs. To effectively help them, we must first change our mind-set and approach, and, in turn, rediscover the simplicity and beauty in these acts of kindness.

This book provides a philosophic framework for an ideal life and society in Canada. Today, civilized society in Canada appears to be in palliative care. We need to take urgent action to improve this society so we can all lead a free, peaceful, secure, healthy, safe, prosperous, and happy life. The book first provides an assessment of where we are today, how we got here, and the current issues and challenges. It then describes the need to build a new political and socioeconomic system that provides true personal freedom, inclusive growth, and happiness yearned by the silent majority. The new system is presented as the Kiran Manifesto for Canada that will be a beacon of hope and road map for populist movements in Canada.
