Commemorating the Rideau Club’s 150th anniversary, this richly illustrated book celebrates the history of Ottawa’s premier private club since its founding in 1865. Co-founded by Sir John A. Macdonald and Sir George-Étienne Cartier, the history of Ottawa’s premier private club — the Rideau Club — is intertwined in so many ways with the development of Canada over the past 150 years. Commissioned for the Club’s sesquicentennial, this work by Canadian historian Christopher McCreery weaves together the story of the club’s evolution since 1865 with vignettes of how certain members made and continue to make it a very special place. Richly illustrated, this bilingual book provides a highly accessible account of the Club’s enduring place in the nation’s capital. From the early days of Ottawa as a rough lumber town to its present status as a centre of technological innovation, the pioneering spirit of the Club’s membership is exemplified by the prominent role its members have played in Canada’s national and international policy making, and in the arts, science, business, and commerce.

This book is the first of its kind to critically examine the philosophy of Bernard Stiegler from the perspective of the philosophy of education. The editors of this book firmly believe that in the coming years Stiegler’s philosophy will assume increasing importance and influence in both digital studies and the philosophy of education as his thought is a prism through which to understand how we live and work, and a means to anticipate what the future may hold for us all in the time of the Anthropocene. They are of the view that Stiegler’s work will have a permanent impact on the intellectual terrain of the twenty-first century as his majestic conceptual architectonic will shape political, social and pedagogical debates in the coming decades. With this in mind, the contributors of this book take up his gauntlet to understand the risks and opportunities of the digital pharmakon and its impact on the educational milieu. The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of Educational Philosophy and Theory.

In this volume we present the proceedings from the fourth international Leuven Encounters in Systematic Theology (LEST IV, November 5-8, 2003), which focussed on a critical investigation of the place and role of religious experience in the legitimation structures of contemporary theological thinking patterns. In the first part, the keynote lectures, including the responses, are gathered (among others from L. Boeve, F. Fiorenza, L. Hemming, G. Jantzen, S. Painadath, S. Robert, R. Schaeffler, and S. Van den Bossche). In the second part, a selection of the contributions offered in the thematic seminars is presented.

Culture studies try to understand how people assume identities and perceive reality. In this light narration is a fundamental cultural technique.
