In this alternately amusing and appalling exposé of the standardized test industry, fifteen-year veteran Todd Farley describes statisticians who make decisions about students without even looking at their test answers; state education officials willing to change the way tests are scored whenever they don't like the results; and massive, multi-national, for-profit testing companies who regularly opt for expediency and profit over the altruistic educational goals of teaching and learning. Although there are absurd moments--as when Farley and coworkers had to grade students based on how they described the taste of their favorite food-- the enormous importance of standardized tests in the post “No Child Left Behind” era make this no laughing matter. “This book is dynamite! The nice personal voice makes it utterly accessible and enticing, wholly apart from the terribly important ammunition it provides to those of us in the `testing wars' at national and local levels.”—Jonathan Kozol, author of Savage Inequities

Multibiometric systems have the potential to mitigate error rates and address certain inherent weaknesses found in unimodal systems. This study introduces an innovative scheme for user recognition in multibiometric systems, centered on a score-level fusion framework. The foundation of this framework lies in the full reinforcement operator (FRO), specifically estimating FRO through generator functions associated with triangular norms (T-norms and T-conorm). The efficiency of the proposed method has been showcased through an extensive set of experiments carried out on four commonly available benchmark databases: all three partitions of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) databases (Set 1, 2, 3), along with the XM2VTS database. Our method achieves superior accuracy compared to existing methods, reaching 100 % recognition on NIST-Set 1, 93.40 % on NIST-Set 2, and 94.54 % on the more challenging NIST-Set 3. The experimental findings illustrate that score fusion schemes based on FRO not only enhance verification rates when compared to current score-level fusion techniques (such as Asymmetric Aggregation Operators, Minimum, Maximum, T-norms, and Symmetric-Sum) but also offer a swift computational performance.

She Shoots, She Scores is designed for use in school, college and university physical education programs. It raises for discussion important issues surrounding women and sport today. The story of women's sport is a story of questioning everything and asking "why not?". The women and the teams described in this book dare to ask that very simple question. Women's sport challenges the male status quo in a way that is disconcerting, if not revolutionary. Women are telling the world that they belong on the playing fields, ice surfaces, race courses, and mountains of the earth and reject what thousands of years of patriarchy has tried to enforce. Increasingly, women athletes are claiming public space ß and are doing so with the strength of their bodies. Sport is about challenges; and so this book will challenge the person reading it. Why did Maclean's Magazine declare that "Canada's national virility remained in tact," after we won the silver medal at the 1992 Olympics in men's hockey. And if hockey is connected to male sperm, what does Maclean's have to say about our women's team winning the world championships (again) one month later? This book introduces the reader not only to the special nature of women's sport but also the special nature of women sport journalism. This collection of articles on women in sport and physical activity is drawn from the author's experienceas both as a sports journalist and as an athlete.
