They were first delivered to the congregation and parishioners of Kirkinner, and formed a course of monthly lectures in the winters of 1881-1882, 1882-1883. The aim the writer had in view in their construction was, to exhibit in a popular form the rise and progress of the Church in connection with the general history of our country in these early times.
