Excerpt from Ships, Sea Songs and Shanties Second edition being called for so soon is gratifying to me. Curiously A enough, I find that as many shore people are interested in these songs as sailors. I have added a few more Songs and Shanties of course there are numbers of others, but I think this selection is fairly representative. I have been asked why The Banks of Sacramento is not inserted 3 this was nothing but an old Christy Minstrel song turned into a Shanty, and for that reason I omitted it. This question is nearly sure to meet every one whose experience goes back to the time when seamen tried to relieve the monotony of a long voyage and entertain their shipmates by singing - to tunes never made the subject of musical notation - songs never reduced to writing.
